compress file for broadcast
I need to compress my project (which is in dvNTSC format) to send via ftp overseas so the company on the other end can download and be able to broadcast. They’ve told me to send the project at a maximum of 1.5 Mb/sec, but I can’t seem to compress it to that spec without it looking like crap. Any solutions? Is it even possible?

As far as video compression, if you have FCP5, many recommend “H.264”.

Isn’t that just the speed at which the file TRANSFER takes place, and NOT anything to do with the compression on the file ITSELF?
When I do this, I just export the DV timeline to a Quicktime Movie (SELF-contained, Current Settings) and then just upload that QT file (without further compression) to the station’s FTP site.
That station opens the DV file and transfers it to tape (for backup) and a server (for on-air playback).Using a DSL link, a 30 sec. DV spot takes me about 50+ minutes to upload.
Regardless, you need to discuss this and find out EXACTLY what the folks on the other end NEED.

Yeah, even the crummy mpeg 2 over dish network is about 3mb/sec. 1.5 would be pretty unviewable. ESPECIALLY after it takes another mpeg hit for dish, directv, tivo units, etc.
