It depends on if you are making just a backup file stored onto a BluRay, or do they expect you to AUTHOR a playable BluRay.

On a Mac my BluRay could take up to 30 hrs. to author, thus tying up my computer. It’s faster now with CS5 64 Bit. Plus you have to calculate time spent if you have to make menu’s etc.

Standard practice for something like this being thrown in is to charge an hourly rate, letting them know your projected time.

  • Formatting will also increase the wear and tear on your card, possibly decreasing it’s life expectancy…in theory.

In this case, you do get what you pay for. 5D, full sensor, better in low light. 7D easier to shoot video with setting switch on the camera. 5D you have to go into the menu to set up the video. Firmware has made the 5D better.

Adobe Premier CS5 will edit native files from these cameras. Final Cut Pro can add Canon’s plug in which allow you to use file & transfer to get footage converted.

I think the T1i is too consumer / plastic for my taste. But if you’re on an extremely tight budget, it’s a great camera for a consumer.

I had this issue with the 7D. The firmware update seemed to help fix most of this.

Keep the camera on a tripod or other support system and keep your hands off the body. Your hand will heat up the camera much faster.

September 30, 2010 at 3:30 pm in reply to: CS5 not playing well w Internet Security Installed

My main workstations are not connected. Except my Mac Pro. On a Mac, I never have to install security. 🙂 Gotta luv a Mac.

But I had to go to the darkside and buy an HP Laptop. This is my mobile editing machine, but also my travel companion for connection while on the road. I’ll have to find a way to disable it while editing. I know there is a way, but I haven’t found it yet.

    Thanks for the input.

The Media browser also connects your media should you shoot long clips over 2 cards in the camera.

Otherwise, you can just copy the entire BPAV folder into a labeled folder on you computer, then make a backup onto another drive or 2 or 3.

  • I shoot sports shots.(say that 3 times really fast) I’ve shot boats also with no problems. Not from a helicopter. I shoot a lot of soccer games which require a lot of whip pans since the action is constantly switching directions.

Since you are not sure, I would recommend renting a camera and going out on a shoot. You’ll be happy with the results, but if it doesn’t quite live up to your expectations, your only out a few hundred bucks. If you like it, you’ll feel better about your purchase.

The Canon 5D / 7D would not be a good choice. They do suffer a lot of rolling shutter issues and they are hard to focus / zoom on moving targets.
