Are you going through the “File – Log & Transfer” menu?
You can just import the video clips even though you’ve installed the plug-in. Instead of using the old file – import, now you will be using file – log & transfer.
I hope I’ve saved you having to search through the archieves. After all, if someone doesn’t want to answer a question, they shouldn’t post a reply. We all come here for help, not criticism!

May 28, 2010 at 4:16 am in reply to: Adapter SD Card Media problems …again..a painful lesson in productionMy camera has the older firmware, so I’ll spend a little cash to send it to Sony to insure a proper upgrade.
The Nano Flash is a great solution. I’ll have to start looking into that also. I’ve already received my 32 Gig SxS, so at least I have one which will cover most main essential shoots.

May 26, 2010 at 4:03 am in reply to: Adapter SD Card Media problems …again..a painful lesson in productionHey Craig:
Yea, I understand your success with the media cards. I’m using what was recommended, but unfortunately I didn’t have the same luck as you. I just think cameras as well as cards manufactured at different times have slightly different operating variance.
I’m sure getting the update done will help, but after loosing the footage on 2 cards after a media restore has shaken my confidence. I’m going into a shoot praying I don’t loose footage. Not a good way to do business.
Luckily I will be able to re-shoot the last card and I have a very understanding client. But, it’s embarrassing to tell a client your media card failed and we need to re-shoot something. It will only turn out better, since I have other ideas for a better shoot anyway.

I would definetly send it to Sony. I think it’ll be around $130 for the update. I’m also slammed this month….maybe the economy is finally turing for the better. yes, if you update it yourself and don’t follow exactly what is recommended, it might “brick” your camera. If sony screw’s it up, they will back it up with a fix. If you screw it up, it might cost you well over $1,000 in repairs.

May 26, 2010 at 3:50 am in reply to: Adapter SD Card Media problems …again..a painful lesson in productionI used the Hoodman MxR adaptor. I also purchased the new recommeded Class 10 Sand disc SD card. I only used it for one hour and had 3 restor media messages. I returned the card.
I’m thinking maybe my camera might not like these cards. As mentioned I am planning on sending the camera to sony next month for the updates, which should fix most of the problems…I hope.

Wow, 15 – 5D’s. I’m sure he could edit around the issues stated here, but in this post, Mark, as I understand, will only have ONE B-Roll camera. Therefore, it’s a big risk knowing the issues with rolling shutter and jello effect to not have 5 or more camera angles to cut too when you may be running into these problems.
I’m sure the Navy Seal project will be awesome, but most of us live in another reality that doesn’t budget 15 cameras and all the lenses that come with it.
What I run into is editing around the hiccups in the camera. Yes, this is a small price to pay for such a great image, but only if you have other camera angles to cut too.

There’s always room for Jello! That is what you’ll get, even with a steadicam setup. If you are shooting with a Red Cam, then I’d get an EX-1 / Ex-3 for the B-roll. Or rent another Red. The 5D has great images, but it’s best on a tripod. Any shaking or movement will give you jello or rolling shutter.

I would stick with 30P since you probably will be using a lot of slo-mo’s. I also would recommend the Vortex Media DVD. I still pop it in once in a while for a refresher. The over/under cranking feature is lots of fun.
Try putting the razor propped up and masked, then shoot some rolling clouds and place them in the mask for a title shot.

You can try 50 Gig BluRay Disc. I don’t know if this would save you space, once they start piling up, but since it’s easy to get a DVD organizer, it may help a little.
The other issue with Hard Drive’s; you need to spin them about every 3-6 months so they don’t seize up on you.
This is the downside of moving away from tape.

Dumping in the field is always a risk. It’s better to buy more cards.
But, if you have too, then to re-state Ed’s post; Create a folder for each card and transfer everything to those folders. Don’t just transfer the MOV files. Transfer EVERYTHING on the card. The data is important if you plan on using the “File & Transfer” firmware update for Final Cut that allows you to directly import and transcode into Final Cut.
Also, keep your original files on a separate drive for archiving your shots. When you convert them to Pro-Res, those files are huge and can quickly fill up a drive or drives.
It’s always very risky to transfer files in the field. It’s never a good idea. Cards are cheap and a reliable storage media.
