Try cleaning the sensors on your lens and the body where the lens and body connect. Maybe there is dust or oil from your hands on it.
I haven’t heard of this problem.

50i or interlaced filming at a higher rate is better for high speed sporting action. 24p or 25p is a film rate but it’s not good for high speed sports.
Faster is better in this case. I hope you have a bunch of cameras or a helicopter. Strap a gopro on him too.

May 7, 2013 at 5:13 pm in reply to: XDCAM video to ProRes via Streamclip results in mixed audioI’m using Final Cut 6 with the XDCam / Canon log and transfer plugin. It works great and has the audio. It won’t work for Final Cut X I hear.
I only use my canon DSLR 60D and 5D MkII for stream clip. I haven’t paid attention to the audio since that audio is only for reference.
I’m not sure if there is a merging setting for the audio.

I’m not familiar with the D7000. I shoot video exclusively. Both Nikon and Canon are amazing still cameras. Canon has everyone else trying to catch up on the video portion of these cameras.
On the canon side. You can use the t4i, 60D, 7D, 5D Mk III.
They get more costly and better quality as you go. The lenses are probably the most important, since they are what you can use forever. The camera technology will change from year to year.
I use canon “L-Series” lenses. Which will cost you more, but give you a great look with the glass they use. I’d recommend starting with a 24-70 mm 2.8 L – Series lens. This will cover most of your shooting. Then as money comes in, add more lenses.
The 5D Mk III will give you the best quality and audio controls with just about 30 minutes of recording time….until you have to press record to start again.

60D in low light will be noisy. I also have a 60D. I try to keep my ISO below 1600.
I use the transcode setting as stated on Vimeo and haven’t had a problem with quality. They even let you upload 1080p if you desire.

May 2, 2013 at 2:43 pm in reply to: HD camcorder or DSLR for a first professional camera? It kind of depends what sort of work you are doing. If filming sports, you need a traditional video camera with a zoom control on your tripod handle.
If you are filming corporate, commercial, wedding, & events; Then a DSLR would work.
I don’t really think DSLR’s are cheaper after you add the Lenses. I would recommend a 24-70 L-Series Lens to start and build from there.
You can also buy DSLR’s on Ebay and probably save money. Some people have upgraded to the MkIII and are selling their older MkII.
There are many traditional video cameras around 2 grand that would work great. The advantage is being able to monitor and record your sound directly to the camera.

That is probably Moire, which is a problem with a lot of DSLR sensors. You’ll also see this on straight lined objects.
The newer 50 MkIII has a better sensor and doesn’t have the issues the 60D, 7D, * Mk II seem to have while filming.

Make sure they are updated with the latest firmware. If you use the SD card adapter, you need to test the SD cards to make sure they are compatible.
If the batteries are old, you may want to go ahead and invest in a new battery to be safe. Run them non stop for a couple of hours with 2 cards to see if they are ok.
