I haven’t used either. Is there a place you can rent from? Then you can try it out.
Ask the place you purchase it from what their return policy. Usually, you can return it for a full refund within 7 days. Then at least you can give it a test run.

Glidecam is a cheap steadicam, so I’m not sure what else you need.

Yes, you could go direct, but if you have an external recorder, you should record to both for backup. If you use Plural Eyes, it should synch.

December 19, 2012 at 6:22 pm in reply to: Why does DSLR’s full HD look so less “vibrant, sharp. detailed” than XDCAM ?I have both the EX1 and Canon DSLR’s. There is a very distinct difference the the codec that records the image as well as the sensor.
I shot a concert last year with both cameras. The DSLR’s didn’t come close to the EX1 as far as detail. The XDCAM codec records much more color information allowing me to magnify or zoom my footage in post with no loss of image quality.
The biggest problem is that most new cameras are using the AVCHD format. IT keeps the file size small, but at the expense of detailed color information.

December 13, 2012 at 3:58 pm in reply to: Need Advise with choosing a multi video camera rig for weddings, bar /bat mitzvas etcI’ve had my EX 1 for a while. I love it, but I wouldn’t buy one now since there are so many other quality cameras out there for half the price.
At that price I would choose alternative cameras.
Here is my wish list if I had the budget.

Why not just play it from your laptop?

Don’t you love technology. I’m sure you are frustrated when it works for all the cards but one. Steamclip is a savior, so at least you only have to do that for one card.

I use the one from LCD4video.com. It works great. There’s a free app with it.

December 11, 2012 at 7:01 pm in reply to: Need Advise with choosing a multi video camera rig for weddings, bar /bat mitzvas etcYou can multicam in final cut using Plural Eyes to synch your footage. It is easier using the same cameras, which lets you synch in final cut, but Plural Eyes works too. I saw it’s on sale today, 40% off.
