Log and Transfer Problems – Canon 5D Mark III
Hi All. I’m trying to bring some 5D Mark III footage into FCP7 using Log and Transfer. I mount the CF card, open L&T, and all my clips appear. I add them to the queue, and it looks like the clips are being imported, and they disappear from the queue, but the media map indicator (the circle in the left column of the L&T window) shows only a half-moon AND there are no clips in the logging bin (or on the media drive for that matter). I’ve tried bringing entire clips in; I’ve tried setting In/Out points; and I’ve unchecked “remove pulldown” in an effort to remedy the problem. Didn’t work. Also cleared the auto fill cache and trashed the FCP prefs. That didn’t work either. Any thoughts?
The footage is from a 5D Mark III. 1080p/23.98. Trying to import as ProRes 422. I’m using FCP 7.0.3 / OS X 10.6.7. / EOS E-1 Plug in v1.3. I’m on a Mac Pro 3,1 8-core / Matrox MXO.

Try copying the entire card to your drive first, then log and transfer.

In our testing and talking with Canon, it appears that the Mark III isn’t compatible currently with their Log and Transfer plug-in. It’s strange that it will import files that are at frame rates other than 23.98.

And I don’t think they’ll put much effort into updating the plugin for a dead NLE.

Copied the card to my media drive, but still no luck.

The strange thing is that FCP allowed me to bring in several cards from this shoot already. All cards were shot with the same camera in the same format, on same day. I suppose it could be a problem with this particular CF card, but FCP should have allowed me to bring in the footage once the card was copied to a hard drive, right? (yes, I did copy the entire card to preserve the structure).
I guess I’ll convert this card using MPEG Streamclip (which is my typical workflow). I was hoping to preserve the camera TC on the cards though, which MPEG Streamclip doesn’t do. Oh well.

Yes. I’m using v1.3 of the Canon plug-in. According to Canon, that’s the latest version. And like I mentioned before, I was able to import several of the cards with no problem.

Don’t you love technology. I’m sure you are frustrated when it works for all the cards but one. Steamclip is a savior, so at least you only have to do that for one card.
