Jim,
This was a perfect explanation of this situation. I’ve run into the same thing, and like Sam it hadn’t occurred to me that it was a timing issue. Your solution isn’t kludgey at all. I doubled the length of my animation and the path smoothed out. Then, when I brought it into FCP I doubled the speed and it looked great!
Thanks,

Thanks for the thoughts, guys!
Anyone try the multiple GTs option? Would Motion be able to harness the power of additional cards?

Hi all,
Just in case someone else runs into this I was able to find a couple of other workarounds. I still don’t have a good answer as to why it happened, but here’s what I was able to discover with some continued fiddling.
It appears the “wonky” machine is actually the capture machine. It plays back fine on that one, but all others including the FCP7 machine I mentioned in the post as well as a FCP6 machine (so we know it’s not an FCP7 issue) we get the increased video speed.
Fix 1: Despite the clip being captured at 29.97, changing the sequence settings to any other FPS before importing the clip puts things back in sync.
Fix 2: Use compressor or QT Pro to recompress to the exact same format. File now imports properly at 29.97 and is in synch.
Who knows… no idea why… but there it is…
Thanks,

Hi all,
Having similar issues, and the extract method didn’t seem to work for me. Clean install of SL and FCS3, bringing Uncompressed 8bit onto the timeline yields a faster video playback than the audio. When the video finishes before the clip length, it goes to black (while the audio catches up). Clips play fine in Quicktime X and Quicktime 7. Have tried various setups and compressors for sequence settings…
I have 100+ clips that were captured and play fine on another machine with Leopard and FCS2, but they all play back wonky on this FCP7 machine.
Any thoughts? Have I just missed the right target keywords in search and this is a common problem? This was the only post that seemed similar.
Thanks,

Amen, Scott. It’s gotten to the point where I rebuild almost every non-vector logo that comes my way, even before knowing exactly how I’m going to use it.
Anyone else out there noticing the disturbing trend in bitmaps wrapped in EPS wrappers? It used to be you could ask for things in “AI or EPS” and be pretty much guaranteed to get vector, now you have to explain the differences between vector and bitmap to those who generally don’t have time to care and shouldn’t have to…
Anyway, Scott’s right. Work on the front end yields A)Better quality in the end, and B) More OPTIONS with which to explore in both your NLE or programs like Motion, Keynote, AE, and… ProAnimator!

My FCP is rendering right now, so I can’t check it out for sure, but it seems like there’s something along the lines of “Make Independent Clip” in the CTL-Click menu on a clip. Another option (though you might not want to go backwards like this) is to start with one of your clips in the proper position, drag that clip to your folder, use the “duplicate” command in the browser 11 times, and change the text in each of those. Then you should have 12 independent clips all in the right position.
Just a couple thoughts off the top of my head…

Daniel,
I’d create a PNG with a transparent background at 720×540 that has my border, then put it on the track above my video in FCP. Make sure the alpha is set to “straight” on the png in FCP, and the video should show through where the border isn’t. You could then “nest” those two tracks into a new sequence- then you can apply filters, transitions, etc. to the whole smash, border and all.
Hope that helps,

Hey Jon you forgot to mention your quality tutorial on this very subject located in the “Zaxwerks Tutorials” section. I had some good fun one day playing around with layer cycling…
Hope this works for you, Wally.

Hi Mike,
Were you able to figure it out? Personally I’ve been unsuccessful in making any shadows appear at all, so I’m afraid I won’t be much use.

October 14, 2008 at 9:11 pm in reply to: The Semi-Official ProAnimator FX Bug/Not-a-bug ThreadDescription:
When importing a 3DS object, I am unable to adjust the scale- I can select the 100.00% listed in the box, but am unable to type in any numbers to replace it, or delete it. This is a problem because when importing a 3DS object, it comes in TINY. This may be why some people are experiencing what they describe as not being able to see their objects on the stage (3DS purchased from TS has been mentioned a couple of times in the forums as no importing correctly).Let me know if you’d like to see some examples…
Thanks,
BK
