October 24, 2009 at 3:16 pm in reply to: How to bring XDCAM-EX clip browser files into FCPI’m so new to FC I probably shouldn’t be answering your question but, I use the Sony program to convert to a .mov as they are saved on an ext drive. In XDCAM transfer is there a send to final cut button in the lower left? I used that.
I’m saying you have another program called XDCAM Transfer that will convert it to a .mov and send in into FC.Moto Guzzi rider

I had a like problem with a macbook pro single core laptop.. genius said it was a logic bd problem. I’m not totally convinced of that but the book work perfect accept when trying to convert video files to QT.. then it would act up using compressor too. finally the book started to shut down completely.. I got 500. for it on trade to a MBP 2core from an authorised apple retailer!

I too would like a concise explanation of codecs.

crazy idea from a newbi here.. could you import it into imovie first and drag it in that way? or drag it from the source onto the desktop and import it from there? can you copy paste it?

went to the Genius bar and booted from another drive and my macbook still shut down when doing a QT conversion. He says that means it is NOT a software issue.. blames the logic bd..
the console says previous shut down cause: 3… He said that was a code for shutting down by holding the button for 4 seconds and got all puzzled about that. -
thankyou Micheal, My mini drive is macOS Extended (journaled) and so is the WD drive BUT the Maxtor is MS-DOS (FAT32)..so is that the problem? unfortunately that is the drive that has my historical and family video saved on it. not the project I’m doing now. can I copy that stuff (174GB) over to the other drives?
and since that drive is in the chain, that could be the foul up causing QT to shut down my macbook?
I guess I should pull that drive from the chain and see if it clears up the problem then?
I’m going out for a motorcycle ride to clear my head!thankyou all! Brad

I only have one FW port so all three External drives come through that FW cable but no other devices are in the chain. I did trash the Quick time Plist but that did nothing.. if I do trash a media file won’t I loose the video? I guess I could reimport it from one of my conversions but I don’t have the original file anymore.. Please excuse my ignorance, I’m fairly new to FC but need to catch up for my job..
if your interested here’s my youtube video that I was able to upload after converting via Compressor.
