  • Sorry, I really need a dumbed-down version – how do I do that? Copy and paste into a new timeline in FCP? Or export a QT and convert in compressor? I’m just totally confused, and sorry to bug you about this, I know it seems basic to you guys, but I haven’t had to FTP something so big before and I don’t know how to fine-tune the file size so precisely. Thanks again!

  • Not sure what the “nest” sequence option is? is this something extra or is it in the regular compressor settings? Can you guys break it down for me, more step-by-step? Sorry but I have never done a conversion in compressor, not sure how to do al this stuff? I also have to make a 16:9 sequence (24P) which was shot at 1920, into a “16:9 FHA” at 720×576 -have no idea how to execute this. Any (super-basic) instructions greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Shane, and thanks. They never told me they wanted PAL until today! Two weeks ago, when they first came to me, I made a 24p pro res file that was gorgeous! I had to make a choice of what format to export in, because they didn’t give me any more information. So I exported an HD file at 16:9, pro res.I sent it and heard nothing. Now, all of a sudden – they need very specific dimensions, which I will post in a second. But it does involve converting my 1920 HD footage in 24 P to a smaller, Anaporphic, SD size. I have no idea how to do this

This is new information, so that is why I am trying to figure out how to conform to these more specific specifications. Any help and wisdom is greatly appreciated. I will post specs now

So when I try to cut and paste the 24p sequence into the new sequence (PAL Anamorphic) it says “Not Found” when I try to paste it into the new sequence… Any help???

I just don’t know how to export it differently – like do i create a new sequence and copy and paste? and if so, what settings? Thanks!

Thanks for weighing in. I get it now. They didn’t specify any format or codec, they gave me an ftp address so I figured I would send an uncompressed quicktime file and that way they can just do whatever they need to with it. It’s only 4 minutes so would only be a few gb’s. There was talk of having them convert it to PAL for Europe, so they’ll be going into the edit suite with it anyways. Anything else special I should do to it before export with the anamorphic in mind? Thanks.

yeah, I got a tiny bit more, but not what it should be considering they told me they didn’t care ON SET. Same old story right? Sigh.

Ha, I KNOW! It was os low-budget, they specifically said, just bring your camera, no lights, etc. Because they couldn’t afford me. So I just took the subway with my camera, and OF COURSE< I was like “This is the one time I need my lights!” AND I showed them on the monitors, we tried to mess with the house lights, and they said “IT’s fine, we don’t care, don’t worry about it. But if I shoot in 1080 on the HPX-170 can’t I not then do 24pN – and then there’s a different set of problems?
