March 3, 2015 at 3:45 am in reply to: Can’t capture computer game play on DeckLink 4K Extreme 12GHow did you get your capture window operational again? See my reply to your other post–I can’t get input in my log and capture on my UltraStudio 4K even though it’s preview and output show a signal, this is even when the input is a YUV straight out of an Atomos Ninja 2 with a new 1.4 HDMI cable which works going into a DeckLink Extreme 3D.

Thanks, Chad. Does the 2K retain audio embedding when the input is HDMI and the output is HD-SDI?

I’ve been having similar issues with my UltraStudio 4K–when I send the output from the sending PC as YUV which is what I want since I’m capturing as ProRes. Strangely enough the signal comes through properly to a ProRes YUV capture when the output is set to RGB. Although even though my US4K’s preview monitor and output both show video when log and capture is open, neither Media Express nor Premiere show the video, it’s just black in the log and capture window. If anyone knows how to fix this, please share.

February 27, 2015 at 6:55 pm in reply to: 120gb SSD Enough for After Effects Disk cache? So for those of us on Macs, does anyone have a solution for the lack of TRIM support on non-Apple installed SSD drives? Before Yosemite, I used Trim Enabler for my third party SSDs, but Yosemite changed something in the security protocols which caused Macs with Trim Enabler to cease booting up after the upgrade. I resolved with disabling Trim Enabler through either Single User mode or Safe Boot and Terminal, but now I have no trim functionality. Apparently you can disable the entire security protocol but that sounds sketchy.
TRIM clears out the garbage which severely slows SSD drive speeds as they are hit with more I/O operations. Obviously, an AE cache drive is going to be one of the worst offenders of creating garbage on SSDs, so aside from just reformatting the SSD cache drive on a Mac to reset it, does anyone have a better solution?

I installed the 12.1 drivers on a Mac Pro 2010 (5_1) octacore and had to revert to the previous drivers because the AJA Control Panel wasn’t able to see my Kona LHi card with the new driver set. I tried both slots 3 and 4 with no luck.

Hmm, so is AA always offloaded to the GPU instead of CPU, even with physical render?
I have an 8-core nMP w/ dual d700 GPUs and I’d like to utilize the GPU power for rendering. What GPU-based render software is available that can work with ATI cards on a Mac with C4D r16, utilize multiple GPUs, and retain good quality renders w/ GI, etc?
I have access to multiple PCs for Team Render, but it seems to have issues with retaining connection to the clients after the initial setup.

I’m still unsure what went wrong there, but I created a new project, merged the old one and parenting works again.

Just fixed it with a dirty OS reinstall.

I also tried removing plugins from the Adobe folder, uninstalling and reinstalling CC 2014 with no luck. Premiere CS6 also exhibits the same behavior.

August 29, 2014 at 5:45 pm in reply to: RAID Decision Fusion DX800 RAID or Proavio EB800MSV2-F32TRHi Lou, if you poke down a few threads you can see some details about the Proavio EB800v2 that I built from the bare bones case. I’m running it off of an Areca 1223 which is only 6G speed, but it works fine for my needs since I primarily work with 1080/30p and 1080/60p. I haven’t tested with the 12G Areca card, but my hunch is that it would be a good match for 4K. It’s a very sturdy and well designed piece of hardware and the customer support at Proavio is excellent.
If you are planning for 4K make sure and get larger drives up front. I populated with 2TB enterprise drives and striped as RAID-6 which gave me 12 TB after format. It’s already at 70% capacity (we’re burning through tons of source footage). I know that there’s an 8TB enterprise coming out soon, but not by next week. There are 6TB drives currently available at least consumer rated, not sure about whether they have enterprise rated available yet. Otherwise I’d recommend 4TB enterprise which have been available for a long time and more cost efficient and well tested by now.
