What is feeding the video input?

For what purpose?

The simple answer:
I like to mix with the monitors turned UP LOUD for a large venue PB.
For broadcast spots, I mix with the monitors turned down low.
I “err on the side of” favoring dialogue over music for both.

The shooting in this case is being recorded on video.
Video is based on TIME (seconds) not “frames per second” like film.
So the audio does not need to be recorded in “X Frames per second”.
On the timeline, exactly 30 seconds of audio will play in exactly 30 seconds, regardless of the number of video frames per second.
Simply choose the best available audio (say, 48 kHz 16 bit) and record the tracks.
A FILM camera cranking at 24 fps, but transferred to video at 30 fps needs the audio to be “adjusted”.
Video to Video needs no such “adjustment”.
A PAL 25 fps converted to NTSC 30 fps (or so) will play at the same speed as its original footage. No audio adjustment needed.

I assume you mean DIGITAL-8 and not Hi-8.
Hi-8 is analog.
Digital-8 is the same format as DV25.

Put the audio on the timeline.
Then play the timeline and keep hitting the “m” key (marker) in time to the music.
Then you’ll have markers on all the important “beats”. -
You could use a small mixer.

There are 2 ways of connecting External HD and a camcorder.
1. HD’s on one FW port, Camcorder on the other.
2, HD’s on one FW port, Camcorder daisy-chained to the last HD.
Whichever way you had it hooked up before, try the OTHER way.
