Its one of the most-reliable camcorders for miniDV.
Its a twin of the PD150.
I’ve captured literally hundreds of tapes from my PD150 with zero problems.

I rotate images in Photoshop all time.
After I save them, they stay the “corrected” way in FCP or anywhere.

There’s always the choice of going to the Autosave Vault folder and finding a version of the timeline BEFORE the TC filter was applied to all of the clips.
It all depends on how much work has been done after the TC filter was applied as to whether this is a good option.

Try to Repair Permissions on your drive(s).
Are the drives nealy full?

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).

Stay with mDV.
Stay away from DVD if you intend to edit.
The compression on DVD is much more severe than DV and you must convert the DVD files to another form to edit.

VHS decks are analog and do not have FireWire outputs.
Combo VHS/DV decks have FW outputs but I don’t know if the VHS playback will output via the FW… and those decks are notoriously unreliable anyway.
Just use a standard VHS deck and connect via standard analog patch cords.

How are you monitoring (viewing) the FCP output?

In a CRT monitor, here are high-frequency circuits and “electromagnets” (coils) that create the “sweeps” of the electron beams which scan the image onto the front of the CRT.
Any kind of electromagnetism generates Radio Frequency (RF) fields that can “get into” cables and gear that are within a given range of these.
Lighting dimmers and even just the AC extension cords used in the shoot can radiate hum into mics, cables and other gear.
Careful placement of all cables, etc. should be SOP on a shoot.
