Try dropping the AIFF file in a open “iTunes” list.
(Make sure it plays OK.)

In iTunes choose:
iTunes > Preferences > Importing > AIFF> Custom > 48.000 kHz, 16 bit, Stereo >OK

Click on your problem AIFF file in the iTunes list, then choose:
Advanced > Convert Selection to AIFF.

Locate this new iTunes-converted AIFF and drag it into FCP.

How do you know its “self-contained”?

To be certain I get exactly what I want, I always make a duplicate of my timeline and, on the dupe, remove all material but the section I want to export.

My real need is: I have stock footage of a baby banging his hands on a table. I have a music audio track that I need to match it to. I’d like to be able to slow or speed the footage between each drum whack, so that they match.

In that case, “hit-or-miss” is probably the easiest way.

Try it a few times.
Slowing or speeding the clip by a few percentage jumps and get the “feel” for it.

Marking the first and last “hit” on the video and then marking the first and last “beat” on the audio will get you some “match-points” to try to adjust.

Its simply not an EASY thing to do. But you’ll get the hang of it with a little practice.

How are you viewing the playback?

You must only judge QUALITY by using an external video monitor, and not the Canvas image on the computer screen.

What did you use to shoot the video footage?

Why does it not exacttly MATCH the audio CD already?

Try opening ANY other project and dragging your finished timeline over into that other project and save THAT.

If that works, create a new BIN in the second project and drop EVRYTHING in the “problem” project’s Browser into that new bin in the second project and save it.

Then, close FCP and TRASH the preferences.

Then, you can re-open the former “problem” project and “restore” everything from the temporary holding place.
