If you BLACKED the tape (there was no NEED to do that) then you should be using INSERT EDIT mode and not assemble.
INSERT does NOT re-record the timecode on a pre-blacked tape.

Just create a title for the first sentence or two, add it to the ENTIRE scene.
Then SLICE it at the proper place and re-type the words when the audio dictates it.

You will NOT get the Timecode to transfer using a second small camcorder as a recorder.
You won’t get the Timecode “breaks” to transfer, as the recorder camera will substitute continuous new TC of its own.The QUALITY will not “lose a generation” so your audio and video will be perfectly duplicated, but the camcorder that is in the “record” mode will ignore the TC on the master tape.
The only way to make copy WITH matching TC is to use a recording DECK with a feature that allows setting for “external TC.”
A camcorder does not have that feature.
BUT, since all you want is a “back-up” just in case something happens to the camera originals, the TC should not matter… unless you’ve already done an “offline” with the original and you DO lose the masters.

The “Auto Select” button must be activated on the track on which the clip you desire is sitting.

“AutoSave” has had problems, like after using “Log and Capture,” the project will NOT “Autosave” at all, even if it LOOKS like it is saving.
You must quit FCP and re-open the project, and FCP will THEN “AutoSave” like its supposed to be doing.But when I MANUALLY save (and I do that constantly) and there’s a lock-up, AFAIK, when I re-open the project, it is the last version I saved.

What kind of projector?
What do you project with it now?

If the monitor you have has a “looping” output… there will be video “INPUT” jack(s) and video “OUTPUT” jack(s)… then just hook that output to the projector.
If not, you need a DA (distribution amplifier) with one video input and multiple video outputs in the type (component, composite, or S-video) that you want to use.

“That’s common if the heads in the camera that RECORDED the tape were temporarily dirty (clogged).
Clogged heads commonly “self-clean” and the problems can disappear, but the tape that was recorded DURING the time the heads were clogged will be virtually unplayable.
