Sometimes a bit of “smooch” will just flick by the heads during a playback.
Next time you play the same spot, everything will be OK.

Also, if the tape has a “weak” dropout, some playback passes will actually look better than others
(due to the nature of the way Drop-out comps and/or error-correction circuits work.)

With Avid, I used to digitize certain sections of BetaCamSP tapes several times and only keep the best-looking playback.

That’s really more of a “Web Design” question.

Create a new timeline and edit the clip to it.

If you still get the drop-out on a brand new timeline, I’d suspect an “iffy” capture or disk problem at that section of then capture (it happens).

A fix would be to recapture just that section of the tape (from a bit before thru a bit after the problem) and “match it” (frame-accurate) into your current project.

A good method is to copy any analog source to a DV tape first, then capture the DV tape.

Another method is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).

I’m just an interested lurker here, but I don’t THINK you two are discussing the same ITEM.

It appears to be exactly what you’d need to attach “35mm lenses” to a Canon XL2 (or XL2).
There’s no mention of a “7x magnification”.

Could you be talking about a Canon WA (wide angle) adapter with a .7 magnification?
(I do own one of those.)

Or… am I just missing this whole discussion due to my declining sanity from working too long in the field of video production?

Kind of like trying to UN-burn a fireplace log.
One you commit, its a “keeper”.

This is one of those situations that all shooters have nightmares about.

Why not just use iDVD?

It will do “its own” compression when you send it a QT movie of your project.

I get excellent results on any program I burn that is up to 1 hour, 30 minutes in length.
