Since FCP HD is also called FCP 4.5 (or later), and FCP 4.x added “Title 3D” and “Title Crawl” as PART OF the STANDARD install (it was a OPTION in FCP 3.x) you should already have these titlers available in the pulldown menu in the lower right corner of the Viewer window (the small “filmstrip” icon with the “A” in it) where all of the other text generators/titlers are located.

First thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

Another method is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).

You should find “Title 3D” and “Title Crawl” in the same pull-down menu as all of the other FCP title tools.

The “Title 3D” and “Title Crawl” programs are included on the original install discs of FCP software.
BUT, you must CHOOSE to install them when you installed FCP.
Its possible that (if you didn’t install them) those choices will not be available.

If you don’t have them already installed, insert the FCP install disc and look for the option to install these Boris title apps.

That sounds just odd enough to merit further discussion.

1) How did something get INTO the trash that you needed to keep?
(Or, WHY would you put anything in the trash that you wanted to KEEP?)

2) Are you sure you need the files that were trashed (could they be somewhere else on the disk)?

You can eliminate the “jitter” in the still-frame before you Export to QT convertor.

Apply the De-Interlace filter to any freeze-frames in the project.

Also, there are thousands of different setting combinations for the QT Export.
Here are the ones I use:

Quality: Medium
Comp: Sorenson-3
10fps (or 15 fps if more action)
30 Keyframe

Size:
240 x 180 (or 320 x 240 if larger image is wanted)

Your Livetype animations (or still images) are of only a specific length.

They START at their first frame on the timeline so you can’t “begin” a transition BEFORE the edit because there is NO Livetype image (footage) BEFORE the edit. (and if there is only a second of out-going clip, that’s all you can have.)

There’s a simple trick to make a fade slowly down to black from one source and the a SLOW fade UP to the next source:

Edit a single frame of the “slug” (or just edit out an “empty frame of nothing”) between any two clips on the Timeline.

Touch the last frame of the OUT-GOING clip (the one before the blank frame) and make it an “End on Edit” dissolve of any length.

Then, touch the first frame of the IN-COMING clip (the one right after the blank frame) and make it a “Start on Edit” dissolve of any length.

If you need more “pre-footage” on a Livetype animation (to allow for a longer dissolve), you should remake it with a delay added at the head.

I do this while still in the “composing and typing” mode in the “Title 3D” title tool.

First, I type my text,
Then, I highlight all of the characters in the text and (while holding down the “option” key) I hit the Right-Arrow (and Left-Arrow) key(s) any number of times.
This creates any amount of “spreading” (tracking) of the letters and words before I even close the compose window.

This will work on any number of letters and spaces (you can just highlight a pair of letters or spaces, or as much of the text as you choose), so you can have varying amounts depending on your likes and needs within the text.

I never have any “shaking” if I do this.

Unless its an animated title (LiveType) or a logo (Photoshop) I make all of my standard titles in “Title 3D.”

Once you understand the issues of working with DV codec, it becomes a matter of knowing what works well and what to avoid.
