You need computer sofware that will capture DV via firewire.
It needs to be set to “non-controllable device” so the software does not look for a deck, camera, or running timecode.
OTOH, it would be more “safe” if you were to record the output to DV TAPE first, then capture to the computer.

September 6, 2005 at 2:08 pm in reply to: Newbie Question – What kind of video jack is this?PL259 or “UHF” or “Military” Jack.
These are common in CB and other radio antenna connections.
There are adapters to convert to an RCA jack at Radio Shack.
That will work perfectly.

File > Import > Files > “select all” of the images that are part of the sequence (they are in numerical order, right?)
You will still need to render this in FCP.Don’t you need to do virtually the same process in AE?

September 6, 2005 at 1:52 pm in reply to: Crashing after every clip!!!!! PLEASE HELP!The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”Click the following link for instructions.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCPro & FCExpress.Download these free Apple Scripts at

You must change the CANVAS size (not just the IMAGE size) to your 16×9 aspect before you re-save it.

September 6, 2005 at 12:49 pm in reply to: Freeze in Capture NowThis is a commonly-reported problem with some systems.
The way around it is to manually mark in and out points, log these first, and then use Batch capture.Don’t use Capture Now on longer clips.

September 6, 2005 at 12:43 pm in reply to: monitor to use with xl2For judging iris levels and color accuracy you still want a CRT (“picture tube”) monitor (while you can still get them) and not an LCD or Plasma.
Any Sony, Panasonic or JVC professional 4×3 monitor that has a 16×9 “button” will work for you.
There are several 9″ portables that can also run on 12v batteries if needed for location use.
If you want a larger color-correction monitor, there are many pro monitors in the 14″-19″ size.
You want to choose a monitor with a “Blue-Only” setting so you can quickly “neutral-balance” the screen image using SMPTE color bars before assessing other input sources. If you just want a bigger screen for clients to watch (not for “accuracy”) you can buy any 17″ to 20″ LCD low-ender to loop from your “good” monitor.

I can be caused by having a FW device connected to the Mac when upgrading.https://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
