The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

Sounds like miss-matched head alignment between the camcorders.
Borrow ANOTHER DV camcorder from anyone you know (any brand, any model, home video unit is fine) and try capturing with that unit into FCP.

What type of Hard Drive are you using to Capture the clips?

I think the G5 is pretty well “fanned”, but that won’t help much if you have a defective component (chip?) or any small parts (chips again?) didn’t get the proper “silicone gel treatment” in relation to the heat-sink(s).
I have heard of certain brands of memory chips that don’t work well with the Mac.
Did you (or an installer) add any extra memory to your Mac?OTOH, there’s always the “Trash the FCP preferences” solution for many FCP “oddities”.
