No idea what you mean. If you enough “handles” (overlapping media beyound the ends of the areas of the clips you actually used) the dissolves should be very smooth.
You might want to trash your preferences.

I haven’t heard that this is a wide-spread problem (and I’m on these boards more than a bit.)
I use “Title 3D” hundreds of times a month (a week?) with virtually no crashes.

I’ll step-in and give you a penance of having to drag your timeline selections to “Overwrite with Transition” every time you need this, until FCP allows the simpler, more-direct method you described. -

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).

This is one FCP tip that has helped in hundreds of “odd” problems.

And NEITHER kind of TC makes any difference at all as to the running speed, quality, sync, or any other technical aspect of the edit.
It is merely a way of COUNTING and assigning “NAMES” to each frame.
As the others have said DROP-frame will give you an accurate “running time” (keeps track of how long the project is at any point).
The “default” TC of many DV camcorders is NON Drop-frame.
But you can use any combination of DF and NDF sources on EITHER kind of timeline.So you can set the timeline for whichever TC your END USER would prefer.

So much for there not being any discrepancy in the size settings.
Since we can’t “take this outside,” who are we going to believe?
Are the numbers “original” numbers supposed to be 720×534 or 720×540 ?
