clean clip fades…
Posted by Jeffrey A dear on October 17, 2005 at 5:22 pmI’ve noticed on some of my fades from clip to clip that there is not a smooth or “clean” fade. Is there a particular technique that might help to ensure a clean fade between two clips?
Thanks, Jeffrey

October 17, 2005 at 5:28 pmNo idea what you mean. If you enough “handles” (overlapping media beyound the ends of the areas of the clips you actually used) the dissolves should be very smooth.
You might want to trash your preferences.

October 17, 2005 at 10:47 pmI know exactly what you’re talking about. I’ve just posted a suggestion about render quality, and you might try it. Go to you sequence settings, then go to the video processing tab, then the motion filtering quality setting and change that to FASTEST (LINEAR). See if that helps. Also, I have my RENDER IN 8-BIT YUV setting selected in that same dialog box.
GOOD LUCK -

October 18, 2005 at 2:08 amIf your incoming or outgoing clip is a stack of layers you may need to nest them to get a clean dissolve – fading 5 tracks individually is not the same as fading a nest of clips.
Some dissolves just won’t look right due to their content – a shot of a bright sunset dissolving into a dark clip comes to mind. Try other style dissolves (additive, non-additive).
Oh, if you need a stack of layers to fade to or from black, try using a black slug above the top layer and ramping it’s opacity.
