If this is DV, are you attempting to capture audio and video to separate drives (that’s not proper technique).

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).

This is one FCP tip that has helped in hundreds of “odd” problems.

1. If you are using external FW drives, they are not “sanctioned” by Apple for use with FCP. They may not be able to “keep pace” on longer clips. Use internal drives (but NOT the drive that contains the FCP software).

2. You should capture in clips of 10 minutes or less.
If you “off-line” and mark the in-points and out-points on “good” takes and capture them, it may help.
On “long-form” programs (music, plays, lectures. etc.) you can mark the long takes into under-10 minute clips and recombine them on the timeline.

You need to be very SPECIFIC as to what you want to do and WHY, so we can be more helpful.

No reason to turn off the TBC (bad idea).

I’m guessing you don’t want the image to “roll-down” (lock to incoming sync).

Unplug the sync and video inputs on the back and the deck will revert to internal sync.

Or you can feed it black burst (or any kind of steady video, like a capped camcorder) and the image will not “roll-down”.

Do a SEARCH POSTS here and on the Sony DV Forum for “Sony DSR-11” or “Sony DSR11”.

It is NTSC or PAL (deck will work in either format, but will not “convert” from one to the other), miniDV or Full Size DV tapes without adapter, and records and plays DV SP or DVCAM with FireWire control.

It is very affordable ($1450-$1650 USD) and is a reliable workhorse in edit bays world-wide.

“Normal” output would be “Default Stereo Preset”
with these steeings:

Where did you “put” the JPEG image (what drive)?

Are you sure you SAVED this image before imort and/or did not “change” it or move its location as you closed your various programs.

You would be wise to convert this image to a PICT or TIFF or other format than JPEG before import to FCP.

There is a function in FCP that is often overlooked… and it can help with many audio and video “skipping”, “sticking” and “missing” problems.

You should “Mixdown” the Audio for playback before you dub out of FCP, or during the edit, if you have audio/video stuttering, drop-outs or freezes.

NOTE: Mixdown has even been demonstrated to help with slipping, skipping problems (or “missing” audio clips) for files being EXPORTED as QT (or similar) files out of FCP.

First, SELECT ALL of your audio tracks (highlight them) on the timeline, then:

Sequence Menu > Render Only > Mixdown.

You should see a dialog box telling you its rendering.

It might seem to make little sense that “Mixing down” even simple audio tracks will “fix” complex video “freezes” or random audio dropouts to tape or export, but it CAN.

NOTE: It does not matter of you only have one audio track, if there are random freezes during output, you should try the Mixdown.

That is a Timecode setting.

Are you trying to create a non-INTERLACED video?
