FCP making duplicate clips after capture ???

If this is DV, are you attempting to capture audio and video to separate drives (that’s not proper technique).

Otherwise:
The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCPro & FCExpress.

Thanks Matte for the fast response and advice, but we looked at the capture settings and everything is flagged to capture to one file. (Like we have had for many years now) This was my first stop. I’ll consider trash the prefs. Let’s cross our fingers. I’m in sweeps!!! this can’t be happening to me.
