Add a duplicate, match-framed of your “background” on an new track directly above the keyed area.
Add a filter to that new track: Mask Shape > Rectangle > Invert
and “crop out” the area you want.

My first guess it that you don’t have the monitor input properly TERNIMATED.
Next to the compositite INPUT BNC, is there another BNC labeled “OUT” (or “OUTPUT)?
If so, you may need to plug a “75 ohm terminator” into the OUTPUT for there to be the correct “load” on the composite line.
If this is the problem, the monitor’s picture will drop in brightness about 40%, and the chroma levels should be much more normal.If you don’t have a terminator, just to CHECK to see if I’m right, temporarily connect your OLD monitor to the OUTPUT of your new one (just hook another BNC cable between them) and see what happens to the screen image on the new one.
Sometimes there is a “built-in” terminator in the OUTPUT of the monitor.
It can get “stuck open” (its a tiny switch inside the jack) and may need to have a plug inserted and “wiggled” a bit to snap it back to normal.
Or, just buy a “75 ohm terminator” plug and use it.Example-

If its DV or DVCAM NTSC footage, use the “Easy Setup” for DV NTSC.

Of course you CAN do this, but if you ever need to re-edit, your media may no longer be available and/or not match the EDL.
In many recording studios, they do perform Data back-ups for archival purposes.
I just do the “back-up” (the tape) first.

Why don’t you “remove” the match-frames?
Another workaround is to add a 3-frame audio cross-dissolve.
