You have to go into the console, and enter

IgnoreQTrate = True

this will force Avid to import a frame as a frame.
(effectively slowing it down to 29.97)
Now this works great, but your audio will be out of sync.
To compensate for that, export the audio as wave files, and set a 48.048 sample rate on it. (there are free tools to do so)

Another option would be to use my QTchange application.
This can batch add timecode to the clips, and do a speed change.
The timecode is nice to have, but won’t come across on your sytem.
(qt tc on import / export came to MC on version 4)
Michael Philips got the speed change to work with Avid, but i don’t trust it very well. (and it works destructive)
So if you do toy with it, work on copies of the original.

6 seconds on a one hour tape does not correspond with any ‘known’ mistake.
In the offline, did you do a batch capture with TC, or a ‘capture now’?
If the latter, i’m pretty sure you’re in for a lot of manual work…
Digitize with long handles, manually line up with the original.
(Make a single track of the offline, put it on a high track and put a wipe on it)

I second the DNxHD idea.
But i’m pretty sure you will have a gamma issue.
No problems, just start with a gamma shift of .8 (or 1.2, i forgot) on each clip. You have to render anyways…

I cannot explain softness. It should be exactly what it is…

Not quite the way i see it.
If you import a QT with one of the Avid codecs, Avid will not transcode, just rip the content out of the QT. (and yes, it’ll put a copy in the OMF or MXF media files directory)

Now we can fight if the codecs are Quicktime codecs compatible with Avid or Avid codecs compatible with Quicktime, but that does not really matter.

It does work ‘natively’ with it’s own codecs, and those codecs are QT compatible.

But the question remains what the OP is after…

First, i don’t own a Canon cam, but an educated guess:
From what i’ve understood, the HDMI output is crippled during shooting.
So no, it won’t work.

Next, the 12 minute limit from the card is not the card, but the way it is formatted. (fat32) The H264 runs at app. 5 MB / sec.
So after 12 minutes, the 4 gig file size limit of Fat32 kicks in.

So for longer recordings, this is the first thing that should be concidered.
(Normal video cams overcome this problem by making multiple files and merge them one way or another.)

So i think you have to ask Canon for a firmware upgrade.

All I ask from you is to read and learn.
If you ‘know this stuff’ as you stated, you could ‘know’ at least a bit more.
I’m not here to sell my software, i’m here to help people.
But first you have to learn to help yourself. And that means hard work.

I sense that you want a video tutorial showing your specific equipment in your specific situation to fix your issues. It’s not going to work that way.

You have to find Your way to get it right, and if you’re not putting in any effort, you’re not getting anywhere.

Yeah, burstmode and stills.
(but trash the stills, just the .thm files will do. Shoot Jpeg / black if that speeds things up.)

What i’m after is how the .thm files are timestamped.
Ultimate goal is to get frame accurate sync with video, but for that i need to undestand the time. (Time isn’t hard, but i’ve only got one clip now, and i need to know how accurate it is after the seconds)

Avid (any version) can read LTC.

What you need is either a change of attitude and read manuals and test, or get a decent budget to be able to hire people who will kick your butt.
