Avid File importing

3) everything that you find that falls not under 1 or 3, but works anyways.

Whatever you import, Avid will convert to MXF or OMFI…as it doesn’t work with ANY QT codecs natively.

Not quite the way i see it.
If you import a QT with one of the Avid codecs, Avid will not transcode, just rip the content out of the QT. (and yes, it’ll put a copy in the OMF or MXF media files directory)

Now we can fight if the codecs are Quicktime codecs compatible with Avid or Avid codecs compatible with Quicktime, but that does not really matter.

It does work ‘natively’ with it’s own codecs, and those codecs are QT compatible.

But the question remains what the OP is after…

Keep in mind as well that you can drag and drop movie files into bins in many cases, but that going through the File –> Import menu is usually (in my experience) more stable.
