Besides this, if you want to batch digitize after that and you have audio too, make the process way faster using ALE cleaner. Download a free demo from http://www.videotoolshed.com

January 16, 2007 at 12:34 pm in reply to: FCP 5.1 – imported EDL – can u set batch capture to capture using record TC as oppose to source?well, this does exactly what i’ve described when using a word processor.
Totally overpriced IMHO (althoug Martin isn’t a bad guy)My software does way more, it can actually find cuts if you don’t have an EDL, based on the video file.

Application is called “recut”, and it ain’t free either.
What did you use? (always good to know the competition 🙂https://www.videotoolshed.com/?page=products&pID=13
However, the EDL route i’ve described is free and should work just fine.
Won’t take you more than a few minutes to get it going.(btw, my name is spelled without the ‘r’, it’s my first name…)

If you want to subtitle, use a dedicated application for that.
(start shameless plug)
Go to http://www.videoToolshed.com and download Subbits.
Do read the manual, and toy with it.
This way you can output to text, render titles with ease and work way, way faster…
I do not have build in real Premiere support at this moment, but with a macro and an EDL you should be able to put the renderet titles over your video in about 10 minutes or so.
I’ll look into premiere to see if there is a better way.(end shameless plug)

Dunno about Premiere, but the general consensus is that all HDV sucks in machine control.
It’s dog slow…
So if you want to be productive, ingest entire tapes. Even forget about TC if you can, as TC breaks will be a nightmare too… (now if you do not use TC, you got other problems 🙂Hth

January 14, 2007 at 2:59 pm in reply to: FCP 5.1 – imported EDL – can u set batch capture to capture using record TC as oppose to source? There are a zillion ways to do this.
You apperantly know about my cutfinder application (www.videotoolshed.com)…Next ways:
Export your show as an EDL. The format is now
(besides event numbers, cut or effect and track numbers)Source In
Source Out Record In Record Out On your T2T master you have source and record the same.
So open the EDL in a text editor, convert to table and paste the record In to Source In, Record Out to Source Out. Set table to text again and save as UTF8 (plain text)
Import that in FCP and batch dig.Voila.
(if that does not work out, just overlay the fresh ingested master over your old work and let a macro go cut by cut and razor the new master)

i’m not a daily FCP user, but isn’t a cheapo LTC to 422 converter (a lot of them around for around 50 bucks…) capable of emulating a 422 deck?
Or, just hook up an old VCR with extTC in enabled, in rec mode to do the conversion? If all fails, i can write an app. that locks the current time of the CPU to the LTC of the camera,
should be a work around. (have a look at my LTC reader, it’s on my site)Bouke

Bob,
Is it possible to display interlaced? Is it possible to detect field dominance problems?
(there is NO mentioning of the word “interlace” in the brochure…)Bouke
