Do you have your drvie in partitions?
How many files are in the folder?
How did you set your max digitize time?
Does capturing to a different drive solve the problems?

Totally not, and i don’t even know what you’re talking about.
(i started with Premiere in 1996 or so, and even then it had normal TC)

This is not a ‘bug’ or Premiere specific thing. An educated guess sez that TC in these files is written relative to the frame rate, like BWF uses ‘samples after midnight’ to define TC.
Now this is difficult to grasp, i imagine. An example (for BWF)

You have a BWF clip @ 48 KHz. (it sez so in the header)
If the starting timecode is 00:00:10:00, the timecode is written in the file as 480. Meaning, 10 times 48k samples a second has passed since 00:00:00:00 (‘after midnignt’) before the recording of this clip started.

Now when you interpret the clip as 24 Khz and you calculate the TC from there, the starting TC will be 00:00:20:00
(480 / 24 samples have passed before recording this clip)

Now the 24 example is just for easy math. Nobody will do this.
But people will speed up / slow down audio all the time when converting between 23.976 (NTSC 24 with pulldown removed) and ‘true 24’ (like in film).

So it is just a matter of how different software packages deal with the math, and if they give you an option to use a different way of calculating.

For the original poster goes that if he has a 24 project vs a 23.976 project, both TC’s are right.

And it’s up to the software developers to make tools to help with these conversions. But without knowledge on how things are nobody will be able to use them. Remember that most of the video production world is still normal Pal or NTSC.

How big is your raid? Do you have it in partitions?
How many files are in the folder?
How did you set your max digitize time?

If the drive gets slow, you get the spinning.
Try capturing to a different drive to eliminate drive problems.
Since you’re working low res, a large drive can get too many files quite easy, so making different partitions is always a good idea. You don’t need speed as much as reliability, so go for a protected raid config.

The most expensive one that is on the avid approaved list.
But the cheapest on the list will work too, and also others.
But since the cheapest on the list is, well, cheap, why even bother thinking about it.

Avid works under bootcamp, but last time i’ve checked, Mojo is not recognized.
But if it’s offline only, get two large widescreen monitors and run Avid on one, video on the other.
With todays monitor sizes/resolutions you have enough space for Avid even on one monitor.
As for output, it’s faster to render a DVD for client approval
than to make a RT dub.

What’s up with Avid Studio Toolkit?

I’m after Avid FX for exactly this function, and i am confused…
Avid sells it for 1439 USD, with the following text:

Powerful, complete multimedia studio for Avid Media Composer Adrenaline and NewsCutter systems*
Please note: For use with Xpress Pro v5.7 only

What is that with compatibility???
And,
VideoGuys sells Studio Toolkit for 300 USD (dunno what version, they don’t state it on their site)
B&H sells it for 895 USD

How come the huge price differences?

Since i need a dongle update, can someone tell me if Avid FX can indeed run on a MC / adrenaline?

Dunno prices from back then, but this deck never existed.
A VO 5850 was a Umatic low band deck without timecode and 422 control. Even 10 years ago it was totally obsolete and could then be bought for about a dollar per pound.

Mackie stuff was also dirt cheap back then, dongles were free with the software…

Contact your financial dept. They should be able to find back the original invoices.

As Joe stated, i have also written a subtitle prep tool.
But my routine is the same as lemony, i’m afraid.
If you know how to run a macro, it aint that hard.
It takes me 5 minutes to set it up and insert all titles in a sequence.

As for EBU STL, my application supports that.
But i’m very curious about the Avx file->import routine you describe. What version are you running, and what effect do you see?
