Running Avid Xpress Pro 5.7.5 on intel Mac… OS 10.4.10.

Trying to capture from a DVCPRO50 tape at 15:1s over Mojo SDI via SDI from Panasonic 1200a deck. Have been capturing on a project for a couple months now, and it’s working fine. Have the rosetta stone adapter (USB to RS422) from addenda electronics for deck control (with the mac drivers installed). Capturing to my internal SATA RAID.

Basically, when I go to capture in the capture tool… I get the lovely spinning MAC coloured wheel for around 7 seconds, then I the avid starts to capture. The delay is getting worse and worse, and i’m not sure what is causing the problem. When capturing a tape shot time of day TC (with lots of TC breaks) it’s really hard to capture all of the footage…

Ran the deck thru firewire interface with the same result… so that eliminates the rosetta stone adapter… Should I dump the avid preference files or where do I go from here?

    I’m stuck

How big is your raid? Do you have it in partitions?
How many files are in the folder?
How did you set your max digitize time?

If the drive gets slow, you get the spinning.
Try capturing to a different drive to eliminate drive problems.
Since you’re working low res, a large drive can get too many files quite easy, so making different partitions is always a good idea. You don’t need speed as much as reliability, so go for a protected raid config.

The raid isn’t even close to full… and if I run a disk test on it, it is able to write and read over 220MB/s which is plenty plenty fast I think.

I have changed the mojo and deck over to my second Avid Xpress pro and don’t have any problems now… but today I was getting crazy error messages in my avid about

    PMDIO_OutputMode:Abort-failed to stop driver-FT Status code_FT_Driver Error-MFIvsrTransmitBufferManager-

not sure what that’s all about?

[simon Morgan] “I have changed the mojo and deck over to my second Avid Xpress pro and don’t have any problems now”

Were you capturing to the same drive?

    Again the questions:
Do you have your drvie in partitions?
How many files are in the folder?
How did you set your max digitize time?
Does capturing to a different drive solve the problems?

    Basic troubleshooting…
