The update checkbox was in fact removed from UI to boost the performance. I’ve seen numerous requests to put it back in. Maybe we will in the a future update. In the meantime there is a handy command in the Track menu – Update Text. And you can assign a keyboard shortcut to it using the Shortcut Editor (under Edit menu). That would roughly give you the equivalent function without having to resort to your mouse.

    Cheers,

    Boris

Can you tell me which version of RED are you using? There is a difference between RED 3 and RED 4 in how it handles pixel aspect ratio of imported graphics.

Not to point a finger, but transitions were broken in 5.1.4 release. Thankfuly they were fixed in 6.0. Is there a possibility of you updating to FCP 6.0? I believe all your old programs will open fine in 6.0 including RED transitions.

July 31, 2007 at 2:18 am in reply to: Red 3GL and 4.1 and multiple processors (mac)

I just ran a test of PTR on a heavy composite project with multiple soft masks and blurs. I opened my processor panel and see about equal load on CPU 1 and CPU 2. I’m running RED 4.1 engine on an Intel Mac laptop with dual core processor. Make sure that all your processors are enabled.

RED 3 is expected to run much slower on Mac Intel since it is not Intel native and can only operate in Rosetta. RED 3 has some multi processing built in but not to the same degree as RED 4. Hope you’l find this information helpful

As you know RED 3 was relesed a quite a few years ago. Since that time Apple has significantly changed and improved its plugin support. All these improvements have been reflected in the latest RED 4.1 version which is available here as a free trial for 14 days.

So you can see for yourself how well it supports the latest Final Cut release. It has been fully approved by our QA department.

yes it can output to TV but that depends on your host editor and your video card. Try Preview menu/Connect to External Monitor and see what happens.

are you using a plugin or a stand alone? Sorry it was not clear from your post. RED 4 has many performance improvements over verision 3 but I can’t say why 3 is not stable on your machine. Feel free to try RED 4.1 for for free and see if it solves your problem:
