you can media manager everything on FCP ( convert everything to Apple Pro Res HQ) it will take forever, but it can work, and then export that via Compressor because I think the lack of RAM will make it crash, hope this helps

What I have done is: convert to Apple Pro Res HQ via MPEG Streamclip, edit on Final Cut, export a quicktime movie in Apple Pro Res HQ and this movie would be my “Master” then I go back to MPEG Streamclip to convert to a .MP4 to deliver via web, I hope this helps, you can see some of what I did this way here https://vimeo.com/8928987 and https://vimeo.com/14638929, hope this helps

  • It happened to me on the XL1 not yet on the XL2,, it has to do with the aligments of the heads, footage shot on the XL1 can only be played back on that same camera, now I have a ton of footage that can only played back pn that and I’m afraid to fix the camera, because I will be unable to see old footage

I have used the Optex XL to PL ($695)converter and used a couple of lens a 10mm, 18mm and a 50 from 16mm and a 25-250 Cooke in 35mm in a XL-2 (all the images are multiplied from 7x to 9x depending on the lens) a cheaper way to go but I don’t know if it will work on the XL HD

I shoped around and ended buying from B&H for 3799 including the Petrol Back, raincoat, the Elipz battery and charger and the $250 rebate, I think I got a good price

It doesn’t record at 1080 but the menu will get to a 1080 option, I have never done it, but a client did and was imposible to load the footage to FCP, he just dumped the footage via analog to Beta SP.

I tried it installing the Cinewave targa codec and was unable to play the clip at all, I’ll try the Blackmagic Codec

I don’t actually own a camera ( I rent them), I used before the Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge to see the dv signal out to a s-video monitor, I hope there’s something like this (no problem at all)
