XL2 footage plays back fine but digitizes poorly…?
Anybody else encounter this? We have footage, shot on a Canon XL2,
that plays back perfectly on our deck but has video and audio hits once digitized. We’re running Final Cut 5.1 on Mac OS 10.4.6, digitizing Sony tapes on a Sony DSR-11 deck. Only Sony tapes have been used on this camera.Comments or suggestions are appreciated.

I’ve run into issues with that too, generally with XL1 and XL2 cameras. I found that if I digitized using a cheap Canon camcorder, it worked fine. I used a ZR65 and ZR40, both of which worked fine and you can find on craigslist or even brand new very cheap.

It happened to me on the XL1 not yet on the XL2,, it has to do with the aligments of the heads, footage shot on the XL1 can only be played back on that same camera, now I have a ton of footage that can only played back pn that and I’m afraid to fix the camera, because I will be unable to see old footage
