I can assure you, that if you use the Y cord (or multing, as has been used in studios for years), and start with the Tek Scope – set your +4dBu level, and while observing the scope, plug in the AJA I/O LA inputs, you will see NO LOSS OF LEVEL on the Tek scope (gee, this is VERY REASON you bought that scope in the first place).
The only time you will see load errors are from items like Sony VTR’s that have 600 ohm (low impediance) terminations. This of course, is resolved by turning off that damn 600 ohm termination switch.
But once again- you are “theoretically” correct – everyone here should be using audio DA’s.

I recently had bizarre FCP issues on a system. I went to the Apple Support site, and typed in “uninstall Final Cut Pro”. I printed this out, and spent 20 minutes deleting EVERY DAMN folder it said (there is no uninstall for FCP). I then reinstalled FCP 4.5 (HD), and everything started to work.
What was the problem ? Got me !!!! I guess you had the same thing.Image Rocks just had an XServe RAID issue – the bottom line (no matter what the problem was), was they flashed the XServe RAID firmware, updated the OS (to OS-X 10.3.9, they are not on Tiger) and the problems went away.
MORAL – do your updates and reinstall when things don’t work.

It would not be unwise to purchase an AJA I/O LA, or a Kona LS at this moment, and add the Kona 2 at a later date. This would benefit your current application. By next year, the additional $2000 will easily show up as you
can afford real HD equipment, which costs a LOT more than $2000.Bob Zelin

There will be no loading effect that will reduce or degrade the signal. Just use channel 1 and 2 with an XLR Y, and you will have no issues.

This is copied from the Horita website – it’s as clear as a bell. Simply go to http://www.horita.com, and READ the damn descriptions of the products. Would you buy an AJA I/O LA to to HD, just because the I/O LA is cheaper than the Kona 2?

The BG-50 uses any RS-170A composite video input signal (required) to provide multiple outputs of blackburst and composite sync for genlocking larger video systems.
All outputs are derived from the composite video input signal (required), which can be from any source, including “off tape”.

I did not even read your entire post – I stopped at the Horita BG-50. The BG-50 will NOT work – you need a Horita BSG-50. The BG-50 Genlocks to a video source (like a camera), and provides 6 black outputs. You purchased the wrong unit. You need the STAND ALONE black generator from Horita, which is the BSG-50.
You see the No Ref (it actually says Error -093 Non Std Ref) on your Beta 1800 VTR, because you are NOT FEEDING A REFERENCE into your Beta machine. The BG-50 can’t go this until you feed a composite video signal into it. You bought the wrong unit.
The Horita’s Video Loop output jack is for the following. You have a camera, and you have to lock a bunch of other equipment to this camera in the field. You buy the BG-50, and take the camera composite out and plug it into the Video Loop In of the Horita. You then take the Loop out (which is still the camera signal, and feed this into your monitor on the set. You now have 6 additional Black outputs that are now genlocked to this camera.
But you are not in this situation. You need a STAND ALONE black generator, which is the Horita BSG-50.

there are countless models of DVI monitors out there, and countless models of monitors that support 1920×1200, or lower resolution ones that support scaling.
AJA has approved the Apple Cinema Display and the Sony SDM-P234b, and recently on this forum, John Apt from AJA stated that the Dell 2405 works as well. This does not mean that other monitors do or do not work – these are just the models that are “supported”. What that means, is that if you purchase a different monitor – it may work, it may not, but don’t blame AJA.
The same applies for Blackmagic. I am sure there are many monitors out there that will work just fine.Bob Zelin

your black burst generator has multiple black burst outputs on it. Send a seperate feed from each black output to the Genlock or Reference Input of EVERY device you own – AJA I/O Reference In, UVW 1800 Ref In. And use the 75 ohm term switch on the Beta 1800 to ON, and purchase a 75 ohm BNC terminator and stick this on the AJA I/O Ref Video Loop. And when you get your Kona 2, and your pro DV VTR, and your Digi Beta VTR, you take another black output of your black generator, and feed it into each REf Video input, and terminate.
You certainly can loop, but your black generator has multiple outputs, and there is no reason to loop from device to device.

this has been the problem from the beginning of time. Most VTR’s have
optional TBC remote controls with Proc Amp controls on them like the Sony UVR-60, and other cheaper models that you find in the Markertek catalog. More pro machines, like PVW-2800, and DVW-A500 have proc controls on the VTR. But via software, this has only most recently become a feature in the control panel.Bob Zelin
