I don’t know anyone that has seen this monitor in person, and most companies like B+H Photo say “accepting orders”, which means that it probably is not shipping yet. With that said, if this monitor is the worst piece of crap in the world, it ALLEGEDLY has a waveform monitor built into it, and at under $3000, this will be the cheapest HD waveform monitor on the market – so it’s worth it just for that (but yes, 17″ 16×9 is a SMALL monitor).
With that said, it’s the same analogy with the Blackmagic Multibridge Studio, with it’s built in tri level sync generator – all for $3495 retail, makes this tied with the cheapest tri level sync gen manufactured. So add this to all the other amazing stuff this box will do for an FCP system – and it’s a no brainer.
I am sure that we will all see BOTH of these items in countless FCP systems. (Even if the LH1700 isn’t so great).

SETTINGS/MEDIA CREATION/Drive Filtering based on resolution. Uncheck this.

go to the AJA web site under support. UNINSTALL the AJA IO drivers, and then using the drivers on the website (not the CD) reinstall the AJA I/O drivers, and reboot.
Should work then.

REPLY – you ask too many questions – but here are your answers –
Aja or Black Magic?
REPLY – you own the AJA I/O, so buy the AJA Kona 2 with the K-Boxkeep my IO or sell it? would like to sell it because of the FW latency but it works great and would allow me to buy HD only card.
REPLY – keep your I/O. Don’t sell it. You have too much analog stuff that still must happen, and the I/O is too good/too cheap/too valuable to get rid of, and works perfectly with the AJA Kona 2PCIX or PCIe?
REPLY – PCI-X – you are about to start a new show – don’t be a guinea pig.New G5 quad or keep dual 2g?
REPLY – keep your dual 2Gig and WAIT until things stabilize. Will be working with HDCam, Digibeta and Betasp so I will still need analog input since I do not own A500.
REPLY – that is why I said to keep your I/O1. Sell IO keep g5 2g and buy KONA LH PCIx
REPLY – no keep the I/O and the G5 2 Gig (look how much money I am saving you !)2. Sell IO and buy KONA LH PCIe and G5 quad
REPLY – Dont sell the I/O, just buy the Kona 23. Keep IO keep g5 2g and buy KONA 2 PCIx
REPLY – YES this is the correct answer- you win the prize.4. Keep IO keep g5 2g and buy KONA LH PCIx (seems to be most logical choice)
REPLY – buy the Knoa 2, see #3 above.5. Keep IO and buy Black Magic HD/SDI card
REPLY – NO – when the Blackmagic Multibridge Studio comes out in 2011, we will all consider this product. Until then, keep the I/O, and buy the Kona 2any other ideas?
REPLY – yes – stop asking so many questions – just spend $2000 on the Kona 2, and you are done. See – aren’t you glad you asked. This was a cheap weekend. Is the quad worth the money and short lived life? Is it that mush faster? Will it run a (2) hour HD show better? will the intel G5s crush it?
REPLY – no one knows the answers to this question, except perhaps AJA and Apple. Is it short lived life? Of course – everything we own today is. This ain’t no Beta machine your’e buying anymore. Will the Intel crush it – no one
knows the answer to this question.I need best possible solution. Money is not a concern.
REPLY – money is ALWAYS A CONCERN. If money is no concern, buy the Kona 2 today, have a great system, and when the Intel MAC comes out, throw it all out and buy the new stuff mid 2007.I will be using the Promax SATA drives. The (2) terabyte boxes raided with the 8 interface cables.
REPLY – ProMax is a great company. If you are doing uncompressed HD, you might want to consider a Fibre channel solution. My huge is only single channel and I understand ATTO has no card yet for the PCIe, The UL5D card is on the way I understand.
REPLY – YES THIS IS CORRECT, and there is no solid SATA card for the ProMax drives either (I don’t count the Highpoint a solid PCIe product yet). Who knows how the UL5D will perform. If you want to stay SCSI for uncompressed HD, the HUGE U320RX is a great solution for uncompressed HD.Its a very confusing time. I need to deliver a (2) hour Discovery Channel show Jan 6th. Should start the up-res Dec 20th, so to need to decide asap.
REPLY – you have answered your own question – you DONT HAVE TIME TO SCREW AROUND. Buy the Kona 2, save your money, and when all this settles down, buy the new gear when it is stable (after all, you said money is no object).
After all of this discussion, you now walk away with a $2000 solution, get everything you want, and will be able to keep saving for when the Intel/MAC stuff comes out, which may require all new hardware. In the meantime, since money is no object, start considering purchasing a HD VTR.10.4.3
fcp 5.03
g5 dual 2
3.5 gig ram
atto ul3d
pro max sata 1tb
huge 1tb single channel
aja i/oREPLY – throw out that UL3D, and get a UL4D.

I know that Bill Jarrett recently rebuilt Food Network for very hi end HD work and transmission in NY, and that CNN is doing A LOT of Sony SR5500 work in Atlanta. So it’s happening, and stations are gearing up for this (as Discovery HD is) – but it’s up to the agencies to demand hi end HD work for commercials. Of course, down here in Florida, I see Viacom approving that HDV qualifies for “SHOT IN HD”.

What you are witnessing is no surprise – the “old school” or “old guard” gets most of the agency work, and they have been using the same process with the same gear for years (transfer the film to D1, D5 or Dig Beta), then “off line” on an AVID (because they have been cutting on the AVID since it came out), and go to an “on line house” that has a Discreet Flame or Quantel box to finish.
Sure, there are “old school” guys that finish on AVID Symphony, but this has been the process for years. And THIS PROCESS took years to accept, because long after the AVID was out (and was able to finish uncompressed video) – these very same “old guard” people “HAD TO” finish in a LINEAR on line suite with a big GVG switcher, and 4 channel ADO or K-Scope, because the AVID was not good enough – FOR YEARS after it could do 1:1.So the new toys come out, but the “old folks”, who control much of the business (the big money commercial market) continue to cut the way they have been doing it for years. Then one day, a “maverick young editor” (think Walter) leaves the established commercial editorial house, opens his own shop, and says to his agency contacts – “hey, lets do this in HD”, to which everyone then says “what a great idea” – even though it’s been around for a long time. This insane analogy is exactly why many Ad Agencies STILL REQUEST 3/4″ tapes to screen commercials today.
No matter what comes out, it takes YEARS for anything new to be accepted. FCP is the perfect example of this.

I have no idea of what your equipment is, or what you did. You are on the I/O forum, yet I ASSUME that you own a Kona 2, digitized in 1080i with the DVCPro Codec. If you own the Kona 2, your K-Box has a Y Pb Pr output that you can use to downconvert the 1080i sequence to YRB and send this out to your Beta VTR.
If you don’t own the Kona 2, and have a 1080i DVCPro sequence with HD material, the I/O alone will NOT downconvert for you.

shut down (not restart) the MAC, and boot up again, and try again.
And why are you using the 2:2:2:4 pulldown ?Bob Zelin

I did a search a couple of weeks ago on Google on the Intel based MAC’s, and I found some photos of the inside of the “alpha” MAC with the Intel chip set. I tried to post this link to this forum, and received a Cow message that I could not do it –
the picture that I saw (and who the hell knows if this was accurate or the real thing) – showed the Intel MAC box with PCI Express – but there were only TWO SLOTS for expansion cards. Like I said, who knows if this was a real picture, or if this was a beta, that does not reflect the actual product that will ultimately get released.BUT based on the picture I saw – yes, PCI Express seems like it will be buss structure. But even with that said – who knows if the cards will be compatible anyway.

In your control panel CONTROL tab, try changing your Genlock setting from Video In to Free Run – does this lock up your image ?
