The AJA cannot do this, but any SDI scope, like a Tek VTM-601 or Leader 5100D can do this for you.

Why yes Kevin – it was the only PVM series Sony CRT monitor to support both SD and HD-SDI. Today, to stick with Sony, you have to buy a monitor like the LCD Luma series to get both SD and HD-SDI, and as has been discussed here many times, Standard Def for LCD’s is a terrible image, so without the 20L5 series, you would be forced to go with BOTH a CRT (like the still avaiable PVM-20L2 which does not do HD) and a HD monitor, like a Cinema display with AJA HDP, or similar.

Wayne’s information is incorrect, and is transformed into “voodoo” or (excuse the expression) – Blackmagic !. All AJA (and other manufacturer) products do NOT have to be connected to the RS422 device before powering on.
This would be an impossible situation for any broadcast facility, that has their VTR’s and edit controllers on RS422 patch panels. You can certainly patch and unpatch RS422 devices into any AJA product, without worrying about the system starting with the VTR connected. If it works for you – hey, that’s great – but I can assure you that you can have ANY NLE – AVID, Blackmagic, AJA, even the old Digital Voodoo – powered on, and then connect the RS422 device, and you will get control of the VTR. Even on the old AVID systems, there is a “check decks” menu, to refresh the connection to the RS422 VTR. Again, the use of a RS422 patch panel or ABCD box would be useless if you have to have a positive connection to a RS422 VTR before enabling operation.Bob zelin

The NVidia 6800 is a DVI-D card, which is required for the 30″ DVI monitor from Apple. The 23″ monitors are DVI-I, and the graphics cards like the standard ATI 9650 only have DVI-I ports on them, so they cannot drive a DVI-D monitor. This is the reason that AJA HDP and Blackmagic HD Link cannot display properly on an Apple 30″ Cinema display – both products have DVI-I ports on them, designed for the Apple 23″ Cinema display with DVI-I, or similar monitors (like the Dell and HP) that also have DVI-I.

the perfect product is no longer manufacturered. It’s the Sony PVM-20L5/1 – you can still get the Sony PVM-14L5/1, which is only 14″. Other than that, you will compromise between great HD and crappy SD, or great SD and no HD.
Of course, you can get 2 different monitors – then there are lots of suggestions.Bob Zelin

To my knowlege, unless something changed very recently, the Blackmagic cards (and everybody elses cards) are always the RS422 master, and simply control the RS422 VTR. Blackmagic, AJA, Aurora and the old Cinewave do not have the capability of becomming the slave to the VTR (or Telecine, or automation controller), as you have seen with older AVID’s that supported VTR emulation. It just means that the entire Blackmagic line has the ability to control RS422 VTR’s – like the entire Sony and Panasonic line (and other products that support the industry standard Sony P2 protocol).

that is the point of the hi performance graphics card. It has everything required to drive the 30″ DVI monitor, and does not bog down computer resources, or other PCI cards. As you may know, it is difficult to find an NVidia 6800 card these days.

Crispy has posted incorrect information. The Sony 9 pin RS422 cable is a “pin to pin” cable – where pin 1 goes to pin 1, pin 2 goes to pin 2, etc.
This cable defines the simple industry standard as a RS422 cable.I am simply urging that this gentlemen use the AJA supplied breakout cable with the Kona LH, as it comes with an “attached” 9 pin, so he can confirm that he does not have a cable issue.

how do internal color bars look? Is it streaking, or is it just when you do a capture? Try analog component instead of SDI. Does this streak too ?
