look – you bought the wrong unit. And now you want to buy converters to be able to use it correctly. Even AJA converters (or Cobalt, or Leitch or Miranda) will cost MORE than simply buying an AJA I/O LA, which is all you needed in the first place, and all you need now.
Its under $995.So now you are saying – “but isn’t there something for 200 bucks that will make this work” – NO NO NO – you have to RESEARCH before you buy, and you bought the wrong stuff. Buy the AJA I/O LA, and you will be done for now. If you buy the A/D and D/A converters (and all the audio converters you need too), you will have a confusing mess of cables on the floor, and you will get frustrated, AND it will cost you more money than the correct product – whcih is the AJA I/O LA.
Sometimes, you have to look, before you leap.

What a shame you have the Apple Cinema displays. You could buy the AJA HDP for about $800 to drive one of the Cinema displays, but if you simply buy a Dell 2407FPW, that has analog component input, you can take the Y Pb Pr signal of of the LHe, and feed that right into the Dell monitor (the HP L2335 does the same thing, but it’s $999). If you had a Kona 3 and K3 Box, you could take the Y Pb Pr from the K3 box and drive the dell or the HP directly as well, with no AJA converter.

The Canon XL-H1 DOES NOT put out embedded audio. This is an assumption that I made recently, and I WAS WRONG. The Canon XL-H1 puts out ANALOG AUDIO – no embedded SDI audio.

Who advised you to buy this combo. NONE OF THIS WILL WORK. The DSR-45 does NOT have SDI or AES outputs, and the Kona 3 does not take in an analog composite or component signal. You should have purchased a Kona LS, or Kona LH, or AJA I/O or AJA I/O LA. I advise you to return the Kona 3, as the converters you will need will cost more than simply buying a simple AJA I/O LA for $995, which will be perfect for the DSR-45.
YOU BOUGHT THE WRONG BOARD. SDI means SERIAL DIGITAL VIDEO, and the DSR-45 puts out ANALOG video and audio. AES IN means digital audio, not analog audio, which comes out of the DSR-45.

I know Ron and Kathlyn, and they are not fools – they would NEVER want someone as volatile as me as a “host” on a forum that generates income for them. I am every manufacturer’s worst nightmare.

I don’t know the answer to this question (I would love to know if the Blackmagic can do it), but you can do this with external hardware. Cobalt Digital makes the 8021 converter, which will do a 2:3 hardware pulldown. I use this on AVID Adrenaline HD systems with the
HDW-M2000/10, and it works great.This is an important question, and I hope someone from Blackmagic responds.

As I am sure Mr. Deadhead knows, the Greatful Dead were very adamant about using the finest equipment. They were the first to use Meyer Sound for sound reinforcement, and of course, Alembic guitars – nothing but the best for them. As should be for Mr. Deadhead – nothing but excellent equipment in your career.

The CompuVideo scope is a PIECE OF CRAP, it is worse than the Hamlet HD scope that I badmouthed in my post on this subject. CompuVideo is a guy from Brooklyn that used to fix VTR’s in NY. He found some Asian company that makes cheap Oscilloscopes, and modifies them so they can act as a waveform monitor. As the years went on, he kept making new input boards (probably sourcing them) to convert SDI and HD-SDI to composite to display the signal on the Oscilloscope. If any of you have ever had any electronics courses, you may have seen what an oscilloscope looks like – with lots of knobs for vertical amplitide, horizontal timebase, trigger controls, etc. ALL OF THESE USELESS AND CONFUSING controls are on all the CompuVideo products – because they are OSCILLOSCOPES – not dedicated waveform monitor/vectorscopes.
If I had a gun held to my head, and I had to choose between the Astro Systems, Hamlet and CompuVideo, (all terrible products), I would choose the Astro Systems or Hamlet in a HEARTBEAT before the CompuVideo scope for professional video applications.
Again, professional scopes come from Leader, Tektronix, Videotek, (and built into the Panasonic LCD BT-LH series), and functional but not great scopes come from Hamlet and Astro Systems, but the CompuVideo product is an oscilloscope, not a waveform monitor – no matter what their product info says. You can get any Tektronix oscilloscope to show a waveform display – put an AJA HD-SDI to composite converter in front of it, and it will show an HD waveform signal.

DVCProHD is a 720p signal. You are asking a VTR that is native 1080i to record a 720p signal.
The Kona 3 can cross convert 720p to 1080i, but the Kona LHe cannot.
