**Assuming** you still have the DVD data, I’d burn another set of your work & re-ship. The VHS may be gone, but that’s why you got the job to convert them to DVD – for safety. If you **haven’t* held onto the DVD data until you knew the client was satisfied with the work, shame on you, and I’d refund the client’s money.

Aha! Now where *is* that info actually written? Grin… maybe I need to buy your book, as it’s NOWHERE in the FCP docs! “The Secret Files of Jerry H… tonight on FCP Mysteries”.
But here’s the fun part – while the VO was indeed 44kHz in a 48kHz timeline (and showing the bars as you said), all the interview audio (whose EQ’d parts lost sync) was all 48kHz.

I think the business model of “service bureau” (providing ingest, output, etc) will have a short lifespan when continuing technology changes are factored. Look at all the interest the new Panny P2 camera is generating. Starting this fall I can produce HD (not HDV) content without it once hitting videotape! Shoot onto P2 cards, field offload to portable HDD, dump onto editing RAID, print to DVD9. (OK, broadcast will still require tape.)

Only things I could think of in favor of the Avid:
– it might be somewhat more stable/reliable (ONLY talking about the app, not the platform), especially in terms of media management (think of all the issues folks have with the MediaManagler in FCP trying to redigz seq’s with speed changes, nests, etc.). That being said, FCP5 is *supposed* to have addressed the MediaMangler problems. In an HD environment, with renewed emphasis on offline/online workflow, this could be a pain if MM isn’t fixed on FCP5. Also, being a turnkey NLE from one company (via VARs), with established support vendors (pro facility maintainance shops), makes serious issues perhaps more easily fixed.
– Adrenaline has a rez-independent timeline, at least DV/SD – I do NOT know if this extends to HD.
– Avid Unity. if you need it, there’s nothing comparable for FCP.
– having cut on everything from CMX to Quantel to Avid to FCP, give me FCP. (well, OK, give me a Quantel iQ/eQ if I don’t have to PAY for it!).Bob Woodhead / Atlanta

I’d say Frank nailed it pretty well – it’d be my reply. I’d emphasise to your client that you both stand to benefit from them giving you a go… they stand to gain from giving the novice a shot. Makes them feel good on 2 fronts ($$ and giving you a chance). CYA when it comes to any referrals… you won’t be the “noob” anymore.

easiest way is to use a web browser in ftp mode. CAVEAT – this is not nearly as reliable as using an ftp client, esp. for large files.
in the browser’s URL, the syntax is: ftp://username:password@hostname.domain:port/ Note that if not specified, port is 21 and you will NOT need to include it. Once connected, just drag n’ drop your file onto the browser window.
BETTER way is to download an FTP client, the best IMHO is WSFTP https://www.ipswitch.com/_download/wsftphome.asp
It’s pretty self-explanatory. But in a rush, try the browser first. -
Find a partner who complements your abilities. Someone who can handle sales & producing is ideal. The sales cycle is such that as he “finishes” his work, it becomes your work. For expanding, get to know the freelancers in your market. Go to usergroup meets, etc. With the incredibly rapid adoption of FCP, coupled with the ever-plummeting cost of hardware, it’s easier now than ever to add (even temporary) facility power. Also, don’t think of your sales/producer partner as an “expense” – the more he/she makes, the more YOU make.
