I use Mac the Ripper and streamclip to create the final movie. Make sure you have the MPeg2 player for Mac (19bucks) …unless that is standard now

I understand that FCP Studio requires a certain Graphics card that is not standard with the laptop. Is this true and if so why is not an upgrade from Apple?

[reel2reel] “What’s the difference? An iMac is essentially a MacBook Pro re-jigged for a desk”

Good Point. Just a bit harder to fit an IMac into one of those little bags. And I may not look as cool at the local coffee shop.

Thanks so far for the input. What I had was an original G5 dual 2.0 FCP studio and other fun 3rd party apps. 23″ and 20″ Apple display (the new ones) Mackie, AJA LS, Medea and Rorke scsi raids Beta SP. The Laptop set up is new as well as doing only DV. I like the Cal Digit storage path. ANyone having success with it? I want to be able to edit on the road so an internal 7200rpm drive or should I go firewire? I will probably go with a single display. I here the Dell is nice.

[Bugsy] “you’ll need a computer that has the ATI Radeon 9650”

Is this available in the MacBook Pro? I am wanting to set up a system using a MacBook Pro for DV editing. I need it for an office machine as well, so Windows will be installed. I was hoping to for advice as for the best ext drive to get. I see the Cal Digit is pretty attractive. And what cards are needed. I will be using FCP (Studio) would be great, photoshop and Office. Shooting Mini DV or DVCPRO 50 in the future.

Just curious What is the format of an aif file on a CD? I imported 8 cds from a music library onto my drives. They are aifs but are they 48K 126bit right off the the cd or should convert all of them?

I used to get this a lot. I had to save the project to my raid. Not sure what changed to cause it or even what made it go away. But I no longer have this issue. More than likely it was “fixed” after I erased the system drive and reinstalled everyting as well as upgraded.
