Answered my own question. It does not work in 64-bit mode.

OK…so here is what I sent them:
    1920×1080
MPEG-4 Video, AAC, MPEG-4 SDSM, MPEG-4 ODSM, Hint
    3:51
    total bit rate 3,198
    94.8MB
It looks pretty darn good to me and plays in Quicktime. I used the FCP preset Share>MP-4 and this is what it gave me. We will see what they say. If it is not right I will have to try something else.

I suggested H.264 but they seem to know what they want (but I don’t think they do).

I would show you the footage but then I would have to kill you.

Thanks for all of the help.

I am thinking the OP is way in over his head now.

I think that would do the job but at $3,700.00 it is a fairly expensive splitter. Considering I will eventually need 6 of them I might have a hard time getting it by my boss. It is good to know that there are devices that have HDMI inputs and FireWIre outputs. It would probably be cheaper with out the whole record option.

Thanks for the response. I am still working on the issue but Steve Dirksmeier of Sony was very responsive AND helpful. Turns out that enabling DV through iLINK (Firewire) which I need for DVD burning or Live Narrowcast disables HDMI and component monitoring. But it does not disable composite monitoring through the A?V connector. So it looks like crap but it does allow me to monitor the signal for now. I will work on a longer term solution.

They look great. You are a natural.

I think a good start would be to figure the value of your videos. I don’t know how many there are, but high quality videos are expensive to produce. You are selling them all of this value up front and saving them the money of having to produce them. Have they made you an offer? Also, I would not sign a long term deal. You have the talent and the product. If this takes off they will need to pay you more in the future. If it does not then you have everything you started with.

    Just my two cents.

I am using 10.6.3 with no issues. Make sure that you load the most recent Sony drivers which I believe have been linked to in this forum or on the Apple Final Cut Pro discussion site (they are not easy to find on the completely unnavigable Sony site). My MacBook Pro 17″ really, really hated the older drivers.

Thank you Brent for understanding and answering my question. Oddly, I shoot male and female shaving for 80% of my work (hey, everybody has to do something). It is important for me to shoot close-up and the razors do move fairly fast and it would be nice if I could see them with out lag and without lines. I think I have a Sony tech coming to work with me in the near future so I will work it out with him. I was sort of hoping there was a written reference somewhere that I could read. Maybe some should write one.

Maybe I should clarify a little…I am definitely shooting HD NTSC. I am trying to decide whether to record 1920/60i, 1440/60i, 1920/30P, 1440/30P, 1280/60P or 1280/30P. I understand that the camera really refers to 1080 as 1920 or 1440 and 720 as 1280 for whatever reason. I would also consider 24P although I don’t really understand it. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? I would really like to read something that can explain these to me as the manual is no help. I will be editing on FCP 7 and storing and distributing with Final Cut Server.
