  • If you load a set of clips and click on one of the clips what happens? This should open open the window and make those controls appear.

    Anyone?…..Bueller?

  • I have a 500GB G Drive mobile which I like a lot because it is Bus powered so I don’t have to remember the power cable. Also, it is wallet-sized and comes with USB 2, FW 800 and 400 cables.

Thanks Greg. I am amazed at how many 1 TB internal hard drives I am going through. I suppose I should have figured out that 16GB per hour of HD footage would add up pretty fast but I was never much at math. So you are doing this with a Mac? I have my vendor trying to find me a LTO back-up system but they keep trying to sell me $10,000 systems. I just want to put a 1TB drive onto a Tape for extra security. I will look into this one further.

Greg…can you explain how you back-up to Quantum LTO? I would like to back-up my 1TB hard drives to tape but don’t want to have to purchase a Cache system or something of that type

Especially with the reliability of the cards lately.

Are you shooting for the band? It would certainly benefit them for you to have a monitor feed from the board. Shooting ambient sound from the hall with a shotgun will probably be barely usable especially if you are in the crowd. I would use one channel for the shotgun audio and the other channel for the cameras external mic. One may sound better than the other.

The EX1r has a number of menu controlled “audio in” selections. I do not have mine with me so I can’t tell you exactly what they are. Use the setting that provides most pad, use manual audio and keep the volume low. It is easier to add volume in post than it is to remove digital distortion from overblown levels. Also…use headphones all the time.

    Sorry about your castigation…sounds painful.

You do not have to have the words BPAV in the title of the folder but you MUST have all of the contents of the BPAV folder in that original folder…whatever you call it.

Bob I use Clip Browser everyday to manage my files from my 6 EX1r’s. It can be difficult to download with Safari but works flawlessly when installed with Firefox. I use it to copy my SDHC cards to a back-up hard drive on my MacPro. I use the CRC Data check every time. It takes a little longer but on a couple of occasions it has noted something wrong with the data and asked me to start again. I have done so with no problem. It names the folders with random numbers on the Back-up drive. I change this name to something that is relevant to my workflow. Now I have an exact, data checked copy of my card. In my case I now use XDCam Transfer to load these folders onto Final Cut Server for random access by my end users. Now I have two copies of my data. Only now will I erase the original SDHC cards. I also access the files from Final Cut Server into Final Cut Pro. In the end it saves me a ton of time.

I own Shot Put Pro but have never used it. Quite honestly I am easily confused and this system works for me.

  • With the EX1 it depends on what firmware version you have whether you can upgrade them yourself or not, I believe. I would assume that since you have never upgraded them (or you would know) that they have to be done at an authorized service center. The EX1r’s can be upgraded by the user but you need to be very careful.
