in the time i took to write my reply, three people answered.
thats great!
as for the various theorys why this happens? who knows. I have seen it since we first bought FCP, version 5.0. their seems to be no ryme or reason, no matter what its named, where it is, what its made of, the **** program database just loses track of the file names!
With version 7 you can rename the clip based on file name, or file based on clip name. Maybe once you reconnect the clips, if you remane the file based on clip name it will stick better.
Hey Apple!!!! FIx THis!!!

THis is an issue that has been around since 5.0 at least. Somehow the database loses track of the directory “path” the media resides in, and then forgets the name of the file. it can happen with stills, audio, video et al.
Does apple know? Prolly.
to remedy this, you have to reconnect each file separately.
Select a clip in your timeline, right click on it for the quick menu, choose reconnect. When the window opens choose locate, then navigate to the file you want to reconnect. choose the file then, reconnect it. Repeat this for each file thats lost.
The other thing you could do is select the clip in the browser, copy it (command -c) go to the clip in the timeline, select it, then paste attributes (option – v) and just select content. I would save my project after each one as well.
look in the users guide under “reconnecting media” and “pasting attributes” for more details
I had to do this once with over 100 clips.
yet another reason this program only costs 1000 bucks!
hope this helps

Thanx Matt
Yeah, after futzing around for too long, i did something similar, adding an edit where i wanted to begin copying the keframes. then moving the edit to where i wanted to paste em using paste attributes>audio>levels
whatever 😐
thanx again!

Hey wayne
the only time i am using Prores is if my material is XDcam. My sequence is XDCAM_HD but my Compression is Prores422. Its not as fast as DVCPROHD, but its faster than XDCam_HD.
I kinda have to do that, because the only way i can edit the XDcam_HD is to Import and Transfer. I have no player, and I really dont want to re-compress all the footage to pro res or DVCPROHD.
Maybe that was the speed claim? that pro res was faster than XDCAM HD? or HDV? or any of the GOP Formats?
When working off formats that i can capture with my Kona LHe, its DVCPROHD all dee way!

Please let us know more info! at the least which version of stp you are working with, and at the most as much as you can tell us about the other software as well as the hardware you are working on.
TBS, i beleive in stp 2 in addition to flattening actions, there is a step which involves converting some effects to real time or visa versa, it was in the same pulldown menu as process. If you check the users manual referring to the Process menu it will give you more info

January 15, 2010 at 12:47 am in reply to: FCP edit to tape via firewire to AJ-HD1400 frame accuracy issueJames
i beleive the 1400 will accept external timecode down the Firewire. I am not sure if FCP sends the sequence timecode down the firewire.
If so, just make a sequence of all the sequences you need to lay off, and do a print to video instead of edit to tape. If FCP sends the timecode down, it will be accurate.
If not, you either have to accept the 2 frame error, or find a way to use the RS422 control port on the 1400 which is Frame accurate, usually via a capture card or other such device.
hope this helps

Don
Whether the AE user has a PC or Mac, the latest version of QT SHOULD give you all those codecs.
If that doesnt work, a company called BitJazz has produced a series of codecs designed specifically to go between in and out of AE called Sheer
hope this helps

Believe it or not, you do get used to it
I concur. I worked on a video once about open beating heart surgery, where the heart is kept beating while the surgery is performed. The thought of it had me worried, but when i started working on it it was no big deal.
The first thing i thought was just how cool it was to see the human heart like that. truly awesome! (it was also kinda scary to see all the fat surrounding the heart tissue…lower cholesterol, anybody?)

I usually throw this one in whenver someone puts up a wish list. Its not something FCP does now, but if it did i think it would be wicked slick!
A clip-saavy find unused media function, so i can see EXACTLY what i did not use in my timeline. ie it makes a bin of all the Footage (not media) left out of the timeline. It would create new clips or subclips based on the Inverse of the timecode ins and outs of the clips in the Timeline, so when i am using 5 seconds of a one minute shot, i can find the remaing 55 seconds.
i mean, are we not working with a computer here?
ya gotta admit that would rock!
