Sorry to post this here but I got no response over at the STP forum and lot’s of you no doubt use STP as well,

I’m trying to export/save a .aif file to which I have applied the 4.1% pulldown PAL to NTSC action.

So I’ve selected the pulldown and flattened the audible actions and the file is now 4.1% longer in the timeline, great, but when I save it back out to another .aif the length has not changed.

I’ve never used STP before and I’m sure I must be missing a simple step somewhere but can’t figure it out.

    Thanks

    Andy

Please let us know more info! at the least which version of stp you are working with, and at the most as much as you can tell us about the other software as well as the hardware you are working on.

TBS, i beleive in stp 2 in addition to flattening actions, there is a step which involves converting some effects to real time or visa versa, it was in the same pulldown menu as process. If you check the users manual referring to the Process menu it will give you more info

    Thanks Bob

I’m using STP 2.0.2 on a MacPro 8 core, with Leopard.

I think I need to ask the question from scratch: How can I make my audio file 4.1% longer without changing the pitch? Is STP the best way to do this?

I’d use the timestretch tool which can be found under the Process menu. You don’t even need to flatten the result, just export it back out.

I tried Timestretch but the pitch changes, so it sounds slower.

What is your workflow because this definitely shouldn’t be happening!

    Thanks Simon

I just tried it again by starting with a new clean project, opened the .aif, used Timestretch to lengthen by 4.1% and it worked!

I then saved as .aif and the saved/flattened file is indeed 4.1% longer so it but I’m not sure why it didn’t work before – I’ll try it a few more times to make sure I’ve nailed it but thanks for your prompt help.

May I ask why you are doing this?

I’m converting PAL video to NTSC MPEG-2 at 23.98fps using BitVice – which does a very nice job of converting the video but not the audio – hence the need to slow it down by 4.1%.
