I understand what you are saying (or, as we used to say when we were younger, i dig it, man!)
If i want 1 second of PAL video @ 25 fps to occupy 1 second of NTSC time @ 30 fps, i need to derive those 5 additional frames, and mr nattress has indeed done a stellar job of making this happen

however

If I dont care whether 1 second of PAL video occupys 1 sec of NTSC time, and i speed it up so that what was once 25 fps is now 30 fps, (and the magic number is somwhere around 120 percent ) then i SHOULD be getting a one to one correspondence between source frames and target frames. But i dont! i am getting some odd extra field that makes the footage look like its stuttering at half second intervals. ANd thats what i do not understand, and its not fun.

I am gonna try jeremy g suggestion of cinema tools to see waht it can do

if you or anyone has any thoughts on my perdicament, please lemme know

okay, so now that the iphone is out of the way, and they’ve got leopard shipping, do you think apple can allocate some resources to lowly old FCP??? 🙂

i know there are only 800,000 user worldwide, but maybe SOME of the prgrammers from leopard could look at media management?….or nesting?…..or transisions?,,,,,,etc etc.

hey, get this

the D1 was already in Ext Ref, so i switched it to Input, and the black frame went away AND the blanking got skinnier!!

its too bad it didnt help my complexion 🙂

Everyone is getting ref right now; the D1 is ref from input video, and my card is genlocked to a blackburst generatoer.

If i end the edit one frame earlier, the frame of black happens one frame earlier.

I was looking through the op and maint manual (a weighty tome indeed) and i found nothing on calibrating in out timeing.

i am gonna play around with D1 reference and “reacton time” on the D1, see what that does

didnt even have to nuke prefs, just restarting FCP brought back the right click the way you have it.

hiya guys!

Echo Fire by Synthetic Aperture will display the Photoshop “canvas” out the kona card, and not by the desktop cheat either.

there is a macro which will export the photoshop “canvas” to
kona 3, and can also compnesate aspect ratio, superimpose title safe, and so on. (*the app was developed specifically for video monitor previews of photoshop while working in photodhop.

even though its not as good a product as kona, blackmagic claims it supports photoshop previews as well as ae when you install their devices

on video dissolves, right clicking ONLY brings up the duration, at least on my box. 5.1.4

if you right click on Audio Dissolves ie crossfades, you then getadditional choices such as alignment.

ps I think there would be less confusion, if the whole transition structure were less confusing, but maybe thats just me?

I am respondinjg here, although i have read this entire thread. it seems there is some confusion about transitions

Double clicking on a video dissolve opens it up in the source viewer where you can adjust the duration and whether is starts on the cut, ends on the cut, or straddles the cut.

right clicking on a video dissolve opens a windoe for altering the duration, so you can quickly adjust the length of your dissolve.

Double clicking on an Audio dissolve does the same thing as right clicking on a video dissolve, it opens a window for altering the duration

Right clicking on an audio dissolve opens a prefrence type window with choices as follows

duration, alignment (start, center, end). cut copy paste, O db at center or -3 db at center.

If you load a dissolve into the viewer from the effects window, thne change any parameter such as duration and alignment, then drag that effect into your browser (not the effects window) you can assign it as the default transition and quickly apply it any where. (you cna do this with any transition, either audio or video)

you can drag any transition from one clips to any other, and you can change its alignment as yu drag it.

if you hold down the option key you will drag a copy of the transition

there are many things i do not like about FCP, but the transitions seem to be pretty buttoned up.

the only thing that is really goofy is that you have to use a different keystroke combination for a crossfade on the audio track than the video track.. DUH! if the program is smart enought to know the difference, why cant it just default to making a crossfade on the ausio track when you press ctrl t??

oh yeah, and i hate the way you have to delete transitions separately form clips. or before you delete across them..that should be fixed ASAP! (in my opinion)
