The app is called XML2TEXT, and one of the functions is to create a batch list of source clips but from a single sequence you have laid to tape.
My trial copy is done, so i was never able to test how far it could go (like was there a way to get an edited sesuence to link to the layoff in stead of the original source clips?) THis would make it much like the archive function we speak of.

there are quite a few times when it would be desirable to link an edl or batch list to pre digitized media.
when i revise a show i can digitize the master and use that as source, but i often need to re create sections of the show using nothing more than a cmx edl from a different edit system. I Know FCP uses clip names as its source reference, and when i bring in an edl it makes source names derived form event numbers, so there is no way a clip from the edl called
“001A” could relink to “broll plane lands” This is not the first time soemone has wanted to relink clips based on reel numbers and timecode.a second thing I would like to see is a videotape archive function which would allow me to lay off selected media to tape, and have the project relink to that tape instead of the originals. This would let me make a reel of shots used in a show. It would also solve the problem of waht to do with tapeless footage (p2 for example) when you are done editing. Spherico has soemthing like this, but i dont think it will relink your show to the tape, i think its just to make an copy of selected media for future editing.

you cant linka batch list to already captured footage but you could let him subclip the stuff once you have captured it
I think you can make lower res copies that he can use on a macbook, or you can copy to a firewire drive and put it on a second mac, and then he can log and subclip all he wants.

glad to help.
we had a NT server we were using as a ‘transfer point” between mac and pc, as it seems we could never reliably see our PC’s on the network from our Macs.
it was pretty fast, and because of the raid 5 config it was 99% fall safe
it was never fast enough to edit off of, but whenever we captured footage we would copy it off to that server overnite for safe keeping.
just to give you an idea, we wound up keeping 500 gB on there at any time.
we now have an apple xserver, and its pretty much the same as far as speed and relibility
when you are doing hi resolution video, you really need a dedicated, reliable storage system. Other than fiber channel, dedicated gigabit eithernet is the only other way i have seen.

Spherico Film Tools has a product called XML to TEXT and it lets you save out an xml file as a text file, which you can then bring into Excel
but what about a batch list? this is basically a text version of a bin, with any and all columns visible in your bin showing up as tab delimited text, which can be brought into excel.

what your IT gut needs to do is talk to a certified FCP engineer. Someone who has been around the block a couple of times getting FCP to run in a multi user envirionment.
this is not a discussion you should be having unless you just want to have inforamtion overload. configuring a multi user san environment for PC or MAC is a thrash you dont need to deal with.
what sort of pc fiber system? whats the server file system? is there support for more than 32 charachter file names? or files over 2 gB? can the servers support quicktime? what kind of NAS is IT talking about? a smart box w drives and gigabit? or a Domain server with attached storage? or some form of clip storage like a EVS or a Profile?
And
gigabit only works when you are the only users ie a physcally seperated network, just the FCP worksations and the server.

isnt that DTS? ie one of the several digital film sound release formats IS a seperate disc, actually a CD.
but other formats, like dolby, are digital optical tracks printed on the film.
or has a sperate sound file on disc replaced the “interlock mag” of yore
just curious, as its been a while since i had to print a film.
