Hi
Its a good idea to turn on your deck before you even start your computer If not, at least before you open log and capture. FCP wants to see a deck out there (on the RS422 line) when it opens the log and capture window. Because you are doing it after you open L and C, it may be corrupting the drivers

What are you using to convert the XML to Text? I often need to do the same thing just to get a more informative log of a project than a batch list

I hear ya!
I know from experience that these deliverable edls are usually only used for modifying the show or finding shots to use as stock. I imagine they would just print them out, put em in the master tape box, and call it a day.
Perhaps a batch list from your final sequence would be sufficient?

one more thing
the edl will not export any nested timeline info, so you have to replace the nests in your show with a cut and paste from the nest sequence ie replace the single nest clip with the clips and tracks you used to make the nest.

in a nutshell, you are correct, Edit Decision Lists can only Identify 1 video track and four audio tracks at a time, sometimes 2 in a KEY (bg and FG)
So, you need to export a separate edl for each video track as well as 4 audiotracks, so with 7 video tracks that would be at least 7 edl’s…great huh?as for Non TC sources, there are 2 note lines on each “event” in the EDL. One can be either the clip name or file name, and the other can be one of the 6 comments.
Also, dont worry about converting the files to a different text format. If they are asking for a “program edit list” then the EDL is exactly what they want.

thanx. I can see that now, because when i did scale them down it was easier to navigate them around (and I remeber when I was first doing this project how the larger stills would take a while to refresh and such
And i can deal with that kind of performance drop, and once rendered even static images play better.
What frosts me is how I can import them OK, but the system blows up if i try and reconnect! I mean, if they are too big, it would be nice to have an error message,
oh well, now i know betta!
and i have to disgree with thax, as when i reduced the dpi to 72, the imgaes did not have enough resolution to do moves, so whe you drop the dpi in Photoshop, you must be reducing the resolution.
(of course, if i had 4mB ram instead of the measly 2 i have now no doubt this would be a non issue)

what kind of logging?
One way to get clip info out of FCP in text form is to select all your clips in the sequence, and copy and paste them to an empty bin. delete all the transitions, slugs, and anythig else thats not pertinent and then you can export a batch file which has a ton of info, (except where each shot lies on your timeline!)
the batch file is a tab delimited text file which you can open in MS excel or any database program that allows text import.

You can change all the clips from drop to non drop and vica versa
BEFORE you capture anyhting, Put all the clips you want to change into one bin.
select them all
Right click on the media start for any clip in the batch bin, not on the column header. A dialogue box will open giving you a choice of drop or non-drop and because you have selected them all they will all change.
This will not affect the actual time code numbers, it just changes the flag.
You should talk to Imagine about this issue, as it sounds like
something in the way they are reading the timecode. I have worked with the owner of imagine, and he is very receptive to issues with his product.hope this helps

I have often wondered why the problem wasnt fixed when they developed ATSC/HD? The first thing that should have been done was make it all 30.00fps, but noooooo, now we have the mess we have now, which is why two thirds of the posts on this forum are about formats and standards.
oh well, guess that’s why i get paid the big bucks!
