We have been using a HV20 which is nearly identical with the HV40( the Hv40 runs at 30fps not 25 fps as in PAL. You will need to convert the clips , as many moving objects could look jerky) It can present an editing problem , if you intend to run it to a Tv Monitor in say Australia.(This can present a smooth running problem if not done correctly)The high definition clips from this videocamera are truly stunning on a Sony 1920 x 1080 i TV
We were running a Canon 5D mark II at 30 fps and to do this was a nuisance, it has now been fixed by Canon’s Firmware Update 2.0.4.

You should talk to Canon Technical Service ?

  • For what it is worth, we only had problems after Installing the Firmware 2.0.4 and changed from 30 fps to 25 fps( mainly in the clip speed being recorded as 2.5 fps in Premiere Pro) Manual Note Canon HV20 page 37. but, not artifacts and banding like you have, I have noticed this in clips from a Canon HV20 ,but, caused by dirty heads?

Best check with Canon Service, your 7D would be under warranty. We run the 5D with fullframe sensor, may be the reason ?No problems this end except, for H.264 mov editing at Full HD 1920 x 1080 in Premiere Pro, however should be fixed with release of CS5 ?

Not really, but, use Image Stablized Canon lenses which are pretty effective without using a Steady cam.

  • Thanks,

Looks like June in Australia, in the mean time I Import H264 MOV into Premiere Elements, then Export to Movie as Microsoft avi 1440 x 1080 file straight into Premiere pro and it comes in as 25fps (amazing) to final edit.

Ps. Adobe Premiere Tech service after 12 months will probably tell you they do not support an old product, seeing CS5 will be out in June?

This is a work around, but, if you have Premiere Elements* try opening the file there , save as an Microsoft avi file 1440 x 1080 HD and re import to Premiere* for final edit. From another program (non Adobe)you may get a message “Cannot open file, unknown compression” in Premiere,* they do speak to each other. Download trail version of Premiere Elements 8 and see what happens ? It appears you can open the file elsewhere and Premiere Elements will read the Premiere Pro effect, titles and transitions as per Premiere.

Go looking for the file on the “C” Drive and open from there, do not open from start window in Premiere. This may not work but worth a try.

Ps. Do not auto save project. Click this option off, there have been issues here. But, make sure you save at appropriate times.

You may have a computer problem, not Premiere. Defrag, check “C’ drive for errors and fix ?
