You are probably right, camcorders give better control.However, we used a Canon 5D Mark II in Egypt and New Zealand the imagery,. still and video was some of the best in 20 years in photography & video (using a RODE Video Stereo Mike for stereo sound).A 16Gb Card is needed for about an hour but, we still use 4Gb ,as we shoot in 4-5 sec clips anyhow and then change the Sandisk Extreme IV 38mbps card,as we are basically still photographers and use a Canon HV20 for back up , we would not go back to camcorders.

Anne,
Ask the experts at Canon, I understand the decimals are splitting straws, when in fact it is 24p which is the motion picture frame rate. When editing in Premiere Pro I cannot tell the difference and certainly in Australia an undetectable difference to 25fps which looks cleaner than other frame rates in PAL.
The video out of the 7D and 5D is stunning at any frame rate ?
I was shooting 30fps on a Canon EOS 5D mark II in New Zealand and Egypt last year and the edited clips @ 30fps and now 25fps (After the Firmware update 2.0.4) out of Premiere looked very, very good.

Memory cards can cause problems with editing, we have been using a Canon HV20 for 3 years and it works very well editing HDV in Premiere and it can look sensational shot properly. You can tape HD on it and Export to Tape in HD, back to the HDMI input of a HD Sony Bravia and no need for blu-ray , the cost is minimal if you like 1440 x 1080 High Definition. Incidentally the HV 20/30/40 shoots 1920 x 1080, check with Canon.

Hi Eric,
For what it is worth , I would have upgraded at least 3 times in the past 5 years, but, could not trial what I wanted to.(So Adobe have lost thousands of dollars in sales) In any case the old Premiere Pro is very good ,still,but, the very latest codecs will force me to now change , the computer, the operating system and up grade to CS5 Premeire Pro. I hope to have no problemns?

I can truly understand your frustration with Adobe..

That would be normal for Adobe you could not even trial high definition on the previous trials, a complete loss. You have got to buy it, it may be ok. But, trial it never. I have been using Premiere Pro 1.5.1 for 5 years and it has been a superb editor but it cannot handle the latest codecs very well , like H.264 mov out of a Canon EOS 5D mark II.It will handle it technically very well but, it is very, very slow.A new computer 64 bit is called for regardless.
I have trialled Sony Vegas but, it does not do the work as well as Premiere Pro.

I trialled the latest amateur version Premiere Elements 8 some time ago and it had trial version plastered over the monitor but, I think it ran all the latest codecs & high definition, but, was not in the same league as the 3 year old Premiere Pro, incidentally Premiere Elements 4 can handle H.264 and some of the others but, it too is slow.

I agree, a pity, 4GB of RAM and 4GB clips in H.264 mov and that is all it can handle so it is slow as you go.CS5 may be better ?
It is a bit like the Canon 5D mark II, 12 minutes of video because of Windows restriction and it stops in 1920 x 1080p at about 12-13 mins of clips . And then you start again, does not matter in the camera , but, it is a pain in Premiere Pro.

Yes, well Canon Digital Professional Software is superior to Photoshop once you get used to it.We still use Photoshop Elements 4 and have not had those issues, I suggest you get all the upgrades in the Canon Digital Professional and your Photoshop and see if it fixes your problem. Canon’s Raw converter upgrade is better than Photoshop and we do 1,000’s large images. Incidentally there is a RAW upgrade for Photoshop Elements 4 , so there should be one for your software ?

On line distribution should not cause an issue .Clips from a Canon 5D mark II @30 fps looks perfectly normal on the web.
