You may be better shooting at sRAW1 or sRAW2 depending on the level of magnification you need for weddings 24 ” x 20 ” enlargements may need RAW and then convert.We do not use a card reader and go straight from the 5D mark II to My Pictures, but, as we use sRAW2 for High Definition video production they download from a Sandisk Extreme Pro 48Mbs CF Card in 20 secs ie. about 90 images and full high definiton H264 mov files and that is on a Pentium 4 in a PC.

At any level of recorded pixels the images and video are stunning.

If you do just DVD’s the image quality will suffer, try blu-ray?Ie.,for HD.Ps. You can go SD @ 640 x480 but, what a waste of the camera’s potential. The H264 mov files 1920 x 1080 can cause the timeline to come to a hault or move very slowly, we convert to Cineform HD avi and then edit. If you use CS5 premiere Pro I believe you will not have a problem. Use a very fast CF card 48 Mbs or more>

I am biased and have been with Canon L Series Lens for over 20 years ,and cannot fault the performance, but, check with a lens comparison site, both should be very good . Ziess lens we have used on a Hasselblad are very, very good indeed.

The pricing is so good it is best to go with it for both video and stills, it is definetly a superior lens, but, the 28-135 mm IS lens is a full frame lens and is usefull for the distance it can get to the subject, the extra 30mm makes a hugh difference. But, technically the 28-105mm L appears to have no distortion but, is heavy because of the amount of glass and construction. I suggest you do not buy a canon Lens without Image Stabliztion any movement in High definition 1920 x 1080 is seen very easily and will need to be corrected in Premiere Pro using Staady Move , but, this is not the ideal way to go.

My son uses this one and looks great, so does the fish eye, need to use it with image stablizer running, but, with Rode Stereo x/y condenser Mike on shoe otherwise you will get stabliser noise on sound track. Better lens to use is 28-135mm Canon IS lens for lightness but, minor barrel distortion on horizontals.

Great video thought, barrel distortion only visible mainly on still images…..

The L series lens are very , very good, we have a 24-70mm 2.8 L but, this lens is not IS and is heavy, no good without tripod, hardly ever use it on video.

You will not need to worry about correct exposure with the 5D mark II gets it right nearly evertime, we have shot fashion shows and art galleries openings photgraphed at 1/30 sec full aperture in low light and no, no flash stunning. and sharpness was near to perfect.

Guess what, the technology is better than what it has ever been regardless of frame rate and cinemaphotographers still cannot get the focus right and ,boy does that show as incompetent on a large monitor in high definition and screen. our digital 70-100 foot screens “still don’t get the colour right”Quote Chief Projectionist large cinema chain in Australia, film is still up there if the youngsters know how to throw a decent production on the silver screen.
And the TV out of the USA on our PAL High Definition TV’s at times looks very poor, what’s wrong with you guys in the US. I must say top sport does not suffer from the same professional sloppyness.
We have used the Canon 5D Mark II for 12 months now, and I must say the change to 25fps Broadcast has made it so much easier than altering it from 30fps in Premiere Pro. And the video looks sensational.

We just got back from Tibet & China using a hand held 5D Mark II only with Canon Stabilized lens for 4-5 second clips, you may need a tripod for longer. The 1920 x 1080 HD mov files looked sensational as well as the images with exposure spot on. You could of course stabilise in Premiere Pro >>>>>> Good luck with the 7D.

We try to keep things very simple ……………….

You could try using a Canon HV20/30/40 for the not so important stuff, great stabilization etc and at 1440 x 1080 into Premiere Pro , but, actually shot at 1920 x 1080 very impressive little tape unit.

Check above out, there may be a link to test on U-Tube? However, checked out a Steinhausen but, thought Rode had the edge and is good to get rid of wind noise.My son also uses on professional shoots, cannot fault it after 6 months use. A test of the Rode NTG-2 may be on web site ? The RODE Stereo VideoMic Stereo X/Y Condenser seems to be more expensive than NTG-2 which seems to be more for the Zoom ? If you use it on the 7D or 5D make sure you turn it on, otherwise it could be embrassing -NO AUDIO because it only shows on Start up for levels in 5D and not when operating. Has been very good on Panasonic 3CCD and Canon HV 20 High definition.
