[Danny2007] “Looks like Flash to me, plus the pages menus are swf.”

Interesting that MSN would use Flash? When I right-click on the video, I don’t get any message about the Flash version.

[Zeliha] “Is there something like external encoding card you can reccomend the would do compress it much faster.”

    You may need two computers.

I use a Digital Rapids card which encodes very small files in real time. I just make a Quicktime in FCP, reimport it into FCP, and then play it out via my AJA card’s S-video outputs into the Digital Rapids card, which lives in a HP computer.

I’m sure this isn’t the only solution, but the cost is fairly low, especially if you have a spare PC lying around. (I’d like to learn how to use this card better, so buy one and then tell me what it can do.)

    DRC-500 https://www.digital-rapids.com/Products/IndividualProducts/DRC-Stream%20500.aspx

My card doesn’t have machine control, which makes it a lot cheaper. But you can get the same card with more sophisticated software and RS-422 control.

    Good luck.

[Mark Suszko] “Shane, I did read that thread but felt my question was just a little different, enough to warrant a re-phrasing. Thanks.”

As the guy who started that other thread, I’m glad you did, though I also appreciate Shane’s drawing attention to the earlier one. There were some interesting leads in this thread.

Has anyone tried Electronic Makeup Artist by Sheffield? A remark about one of his other plugs led me to that one.

    https://straylight.tv/pluginz/

It’s a very narrow-purpose plug which simply reduces skin detail, but it sounds useful After all, the population IS getting older!!!!! and Wrinklier!!!! and since we’re talking Boomers here, that wrinkled old population THINKS it should look young until the day they die.

    Present Company Excluded of course.

[walter biscardi] “Boris Continuum Complete. It has a little bit of everything.”

What do you think of the upgrade from 4 to 5?

[Shane Ross] “You gotta look at what they all offer and make that choice yourself.”

I knew I was going to get that answer, because in an ideal world you’re absolutely correct. But there are lots of people here, including you, whose advice is worth listening to. If you find yourself using one set more and more, it’s probably for good reason. I’ve bought so many AE plugs that still sound great — but they just didn’t make it, not because they were bad, but because another plug was just a little faster/easier to use.

Chris, I noticed that BCC AE + BCC for FCP is “special” at $495. The BCC 5 FCP upgrade is $295. You’re right about the cost of these things. It’s great that people are writing them, but I can’t pass on the expense to my clients. I buy them because I think they’re necessary to keep up stylistically, and still be fast. And it isn’t just the money — it takes time to learn how to use them too.

My personal favorite is still the Tinderbox set for AE.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. So far it’s Nattress in the lead. (& I already have BCC 4, so 5 is a very questionable buy.)

[Steve Roberts] “Here’s one of the articles that came up after doing that:
    ” target=”_blank”>https://digitalproducer.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=26250″

Thanks — this article refers to the Cycore effects that come up AE 6.5. I have AE 7 Pro, and it doesn’t seem to have the same effects. Does anybody know where to get the CC Star Light effect?

Very funny discussion by the way. “I see your geekage and raise you”

    Thanks!

Now that I’ve heard the effect, I’m getting greedier.

Is there any way, using Soundtrack, for example, to generate the effect so it emerges right out of a piece of music? I’d like the effect to ramp up a couple octaves to make it seem as if it’s really coming from the recording that precedes it.

    Thanks again.

October 8, 2007 at 3:55 pm in reply to: Blending Options from PS aren’t in AE

Thanks. I feel a tad less crazy.

I’m using CS2. I’m having trouble deciding whether to upgrade to the Mac or PC version, so I’m postponing that move, and anyway I have to do this immediately.

I may just make jpgs and then turn them back into psd’s.

    Any other options with CS2?

  • Haven’t seen the reel, but to continue Mark’s suggestion to look outside the box, there are plenty of markets for 3d animators: video game designers, architects, planning commissions, engineering firms, and for that matter, documentary filmmakers.
