Okay, I have to ask whether this is true or just an urban legend:

A major provider of editing equipment was planning to show their new, voice-actuated editing console at NAB. Problem was, it wasn’t ready. So the “editor” on the stage would give a verbal command, which the EDITOR behind the curtain would punch into the machine manually, and the edit would magically perform. Very impressive, until someone tripped on a curtain and revealed the Wizard of Oz and the trick.

That can’t be a true story. Or… is it?

btw, I agree with all the comments here about NAB, both pro and con. Mainly though, I’m just sort of tired of NAB.

Just curious — any theories as to why I had this crash? Was it doing the update while FCP was open?

Agreed, but I don’t have an up-to-date clone of my system drive. Do you think I should wait to make one before I use Disk Warrior?

And, if DW doesn’t recover Boris, what is the best way to get that back? Reinstall FCP?

Two things:

The insurance company may have existing or potential relationships with various vendors, and it doesn’t want to offend any one of them by featuring their competitors in a sponsored video.

Showing a specific brand, as opposed to a generic description of the contents of a bottle/package, may be considered distracting and misleading. A viewer who can’t get XYZ Brand Rubbing Alcohol may think she needs to find THAT BRAND, whereas all she needs is Rubbing Alcohol.
