Create your text layer.

Turn on the 3D Switch for the layer.

Duplicate the layer 5 or 6 times.

Offset the z-position of each layer by 2 or 3 from each othe (example: text layer one z-position=0, text layer two z-position=2, text layer three z-position=4, etc.)

Parent the duplicate layers to the original text layer or pre-comp.

Instant 3-D text from just about every camera angle as long as you don’t zoom in too tight!!

I think your problem may be with your FCP operator. Next time he imports the movie have him double click the movie then go under the modify menu and check that the alpha channel is set to straight. The setting may be set to black which will give you the fringin.

A second thought…

You don’t say what codec your rendering to. The only ones with alpha channel that I can think of immediately are Animation and Microcosm. You should be rendering to one of these….

Thanks for the post!! Have played around with the demo and it really is amazing what this little prog can do and the price is definitely right. This will save a few shots from my inexperienced shooters (but I’ll be damned if I’ll let them know that…what the heck did they make tripods for in the first place :*)

Jim is correct, Text Hacker has a major problem rendering to fields. My work around has been to render TH by itself to frames with alpha channel and then to render the final project using the resulting movie.

Hey Mac,

Just a shot, but check the pull down in your info palette. If someone reset that to something other than 8-bit it will change the numbers in a lot of the effects windows.
